Hotel L'Idéal Le Mountbatten

10/10 Excellent

"We were on a bucket list visit to the D-Day beaches. We took our car on the ferry from Portsmouth to Ouistreham, about a 30 minute drive from the hotel, where there is free parking. This hotel was a short walk from the remains of the Mulberry harbour and the museum. There are numerous museums, relics and cemeteries within 30 minutes drive. Inland there are the historic towns of Caen, Rouen, Falaise and Bayeux (although the tapestry is currently in the British Museum). The motel-style property is run by a family who could not be more helpful. A breakfast buffet had a wide selection of pastries, cheeses and meats. The room was clean and bright with a double and a single bed, TV and kettle. The restriction on checkin to 4-7pm might be a little inconvenient."

Hôtel Château Saint-Gilles - Bayeux

10/10 Excellent

"I gave this hotel a five-star rating in every category without hesitation. I can honestly say that this is one of the finest hotels I've ever stayed in. No detail is left unattended, no question by staff or request unanswered, no disappointment in food quality, and obviously, no maintenance deferred in the facility or spacious grounds and rooms. This is a sign of outstanding management and careful selection of staff. I heartily recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to get away from the busyness of life and the chaos in our current fast-paced environment. I especially suggest it for peace and the appreciation of elegance and beauty and everything being as it should be. for me, it was the perfect place for a base for Normandy World War II sight and museum visits."
