Ocean Front w/ Unusual Floor Plan

Thankfully, we did not experience the same pest problem someone else mentioned. Nice oceanfront home and mostly as noted in the listing. The only complaint would be that this house has a rather unusual floor plan. One of the bedrooms is awkwardly inside of another bedroom. This meant that to get into or out of this bedroom you need to pass through a bedroom. We made this work, but we were not aware this would be the situation and could see how it could be a problem for some people. None of the bedrooms have a bath attached to them, like a true master suite type of set-up. The three bedrooms are all on one side of the house and all share a standalone full bathroom. Then there is another standalone full bathroom on the opposite side of the house all by itself.

Great place to relax

Very cute little house to relax in. it is extremely outdated and needs some love but it’s fine if you keep your expectations that it’s an old beach house. We enjoyed the porch and has a great view!

Budget friendly, oceanfront, easy access to restaurants, shopping

Overall, house was a nice fit for my daughter and me. A couple of items to possibly address…ceiling fan in bedroom to right of bathroom is very loose and wobbly. Afraid to turn it on for fear of it falling out of the ceiling. Wi-fi was not accessible at all so unable to watch tv or movies. We did place a call to management upon day of arrival and someone showed up the next day but we were not there so only a note was left. If happens again with another guest, maybe attempt to call the guest to make sure someone can be there. Outdoor chairs on back patio could use a good cleaning. The access to the beach from the property needs to be trimmed back due to overgrowth on the path. Thank you for a nice weekend. We enjoyed our stay!

FILTHY and UNSANITARY.

Vacation is something you look forward to all year but, for us this year it was a nightmare. This house is infested with cockroaches. There had been a lot of rain the week before our friends vacation and there was standing water that blocked our beach access for a few days and that is what the mgmt blamed the cockroach problem on. It was so bad that they were dropping out of the cracks in the ceiling onto the sleeping person below. We bought duct tape to prevent this from happening again before the exterminator could make it out mid week. They were all sizes. My friend actually heard one hit the floor in the living room and as it was heading towards the door , she opened the door and it walked outside. That's how big some were. This was an infestation. The exterminator admitted that they had been there before and that this house should have been treated more thoroughly which indicates to me that it's an ongoing problem and not just because of the rain. Oak Island accommodations basically said that that is how things are in the south and refunded a whopping $100 which was more of an insult than anything else. There was no relaxation on this trip. The beach is beautiful, of course. After a day on the beach you want to go inside and relax but that never happened because of the cockroaches. We left early. Not because of the weather but because of the cockroaches. Been traveling to beach houses in NC for 18 yrs and never experienced anything like this.

Comfortable beds and great location

Great location, on the beach, comfortable bed, porch, no grill, older home in need of TLC. Good for kids but not for 3 couples, access to one bedroom is through another. Management company fast response to bugs.

Great stay at beach

We had fun lots of sand but tried to keep it picked up. I put our towels oncouches so our Cooper dog wouldn’t scratch them. No blankets on beds so lucky we brought some smaller ones. They need a few new throw rugs but this is minor. We had a great time and I had so much fun looking for shells. Our son and wife came for 3 days and they enjoyed it. Thanks so much for everything . We left a folding screen for bedroom window so we could hear the waives and a little grill and charcoal in shower down below . We loved Oak Island!! The Rices

Bucket List #1

What a cozy wonderful house . The views were breathtaking. I have stage 4 cancer , I was weak as a kitten when I arrived. Throughout my stay I got stronger & stronger. Beach magic I call it . Frankly I did not want to leave . I do believe if I stayed the winter I would live longer . It was a delight to take my dog “ Lewis” for a chilly walk , go back to the house ,cook a warm dinner. Lewis & I would watch the sunset from the deck each night . Thankyou all .

Great family time on the beach!

Quaint oceanfront cottage with a short pathway directly to the beach. Awesome porch with rocking chairs and picnic table looking out over the ocean. Enjoyed connecting with our adult children who each live out of state. Thank you so much!

One of the best beach experiences ever. Just loved Oak Island in North Carolina.

Rental process was easy, well explained and efficient. Would definitely stay at this property again in the future and would also recommend it to anyone else.

Quaint getaway

Nice property, maintained well, but showing some age in the windows especially. Great open concept with good views. No screens so keeping bugs out is hard and get fresh air or listen to the ocean. One of the bedrooms in inside another bedroom so that bedroom occupants must pass through the other bedroom every time. The 2nd bath has no heat or AC so leave the door to living area open so it gets some air exchange. Conveniently located to lots of local stuff. You can walk a block south and get to small store and a block north to best pizza in town.

The good, bad, and buggy

The location, ocean front, and porches were good! The dirty dishes (in the cabinet!), floors (needed mopping), rugs (lots of pet pee spots), vents (haven't been cleaned in ages), and windowsills (moldy) were bad. The place was crawling with bugs- of all kinds but especially extra large roaches- "palmetto bugs". In all the years we've vacationed at the beach this is the only place we've seen with this many bugs. Maybe all of this is because it's off season but when you pay nearly $200 a night you hope the place is at least clean.

Convenient, clean and comfy

The whole process of renting was easy. The rate was less than I expected. Property was very clean including clean disinfected shrink wrapped towels..etc. Location is ideally close to major grocery stores, Publix and Food Lion, with numerous restaurants close by as well. The bed was very comfortable. The living area was complete with a very comfortable recliner, reclining sofa and stationary sofa...all of which I used at some point during my stay. AND BEST OF ALL...it has a great deck facing the ocean, with a portion covered by a roof which was perfect for the one evening where it rained.....I could still sit outside and watch and listen to the waves. hope to be able to rent the house again in the future if travel still suits me.

Better in person

The house has amazing views. The updated deck is really nice. Having the pet/kid doors on the front and back deck were very convenient to keep our kids and dog from going down the stairs. The place is dated, but looked better than the pictures online. Not giving it 5 stars because some of the dishes on the shelves were dirty, wifi was extremely choppy, and a bird had made a nest under the kitchen (very noisy!) . But we had a great time, giving it a solid 4 starts, would go back for sure.

It was a nice stay however the couch and blue chair smelled like a wet dog. Also, our bed was missing a flat sheet so we took the sheet off the unused bed and there were no spare blankets anywhere. Otherwise, it was a lovely stay.

Steps away from the beach

We loved the location of this house. It's even closer to the beach than it appears in the photos on the website. It is cozy, was big enough for 6 people. Ocean front deck is a good size as well. Saw beautiful sunsets each day right from the deck. The only issue we had was related to internet, would sporadically go out. Other than that, will definitely recommend to others and would like to stay here again.

Great location

This was a great little house with a great porch for watching and listening to the waves and an easy walk down to the beach. Clean on arrival with everything we needed. It is a pet friendly home and we are thankful for that. If I had any suggestions for improvement I would recommend cleaning the couches/chairs occasionally or providing washable covers to place over them as there was a fairly strong unpleasant odor to them. If not taken care of I would recommend those coming to stay to bring something with them to cover up the smell. Otherwise we really enjoyed the house and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Not Bad, Not the Best

The house overall is fine, not exactly a wealth of comfort but it gets the job done. It is right on the beach and you can’t beat that but it is definitely an economical house rather than a spendy vacation house. It does have everything you need and my family and my dogs had a great time watching the sunset from the porch and being able to just step out onto the beach whenever we felt like it. Beware of the hidden fees!!!!!! And the check in process was not fully explained before we hit the road. The listing does not mention pet fees and they are definitely there. It simply says “pet friendly.” Plus there is an insurance fee or deposit which must be made in cash or certified check. We were told about the deposit and we’re ready to pay it when we arrived but got no real instructions other than that during the booking process. So we hit the road and we had the cash in hand but at 2:00pm on the day of our check in (which is at 4:00) we got a call saying we needed to drop our cash off at the office prior to 5:00 or we would not be able to check in. We live two and a half hours away. We got a late start (baby and two dogs....) but were not aware that we would literally be locked out of the house if we did not bring our crazy cash deposit to the office before they closed. Thank you for telling us about this three hours before you close for the weekend...We didn’t make it in time and had to call at 4:30 and pay the stupid insurance fee. Not a big deal but after paying almost double what I wanted to with all the other fees, I was pretty pissed. This place clearly has insurance already (and doesn’t use it because the lack of maintenance on the house is very clear, broken window blinds and faulty bath tub among other cosmetic issues) and they are trying to make the consumers pay it for them with this ridiculous deposit. Anyway I love the location and the house is perfectly fine and comfortable and right on the beach as advertised. But if I’m paying good money for a weekend then I’m renting a nicer place. The beds are uncomfortable and the bathtub doesn’t work. We were one family alone here and it was fine but multiple families or groups of friends would be very tight. Also I ended up paying over double what I expected to pay because of the added fees. Sorry.

Excellent location ocean front dog friendly property.

Overall experience was great. We had to thoroughly clean the main living area. Dried food on cabinets and pet hair on the counter tops. Floor had not been mopped, was very dirty. Older property needs some updates but about what we expected being pet friendly. View was perfect. Spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the ocean view and birds. Overall comfortable for the week.

Great Location

House is beach front, great dunes for most part house is well cared for (plumbing in main bathroom tub needs attention) lots of room inside and on the deck. Loved to watch the ocean and hear the waves. Lots of pots and pans dishes etc. in times past I have been deceived by pictures but in this case the pictures on line well represent the interior and exterior of the rental.

Would certainly rent Heather Leigh again

This property was very clean, well maintained and great location on Oak Island. Loved being able to sit in the rocking chairs and watch the ocean. Beautiful sunset at night. A great plus was that it is pet friendly. Thank you for a great stay.
