Chester Cottage is a charming original kiwi bach located in the stunning beach village of Oakura. This older-style cottage offers a unique and laid-back atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing family holiday. Just a ten-minute drive from New Plymouth along NZ's West Coast, Surf Highway 45, it boasts a sought-after waterfront position. Enjoy the convenience of nearby boutique shops, cafes, and restaurants, all while being steps away from the beach.

The cottage provides cost-effective accommodation without sacrificing location. With direct beach access and nestled among multi-million dollar homes, it is an ideal escape from the everyday hustle and bustle. Fantastic spot

Had a fabulous long weekend here. The outside could do with a good tidy up very sandy mats etc. Also a lot of the crockery and cutlery was not very clean but overall great house thank you

We had a lovely time, house looks over the beach. We enjoyed the sound of the sea, the house was clean and tidy. Beds really comfortable. Looking forward to going back again.

My Mum came over from Canada to visit us. It was the perfect place to stay and so close to the beach! Lots of space! We made great memories!

Relaxing and Private

Very easy to feel at home. The weather wasn’t always the greatest but the house was warm and my husband spent a happy time on the covered balcony gazing at the sea. Lots of walks on the beach and the tracks. The sea was a constant companion. A great escape for a few days. Would like to stay longer next time.

birthday treat

Chester cottage is waterfront beach which is extremely unique. A weather bomb hit nz so we stayed inside listened to the waves crashing and watching movies with a lovely fire going. Top notch comfortable bed and couch in remarkable beach setting. I wasnt well to do anything but two nights there was peaceful. A unique stay in a beautiful spot of nz.

A great holiday home - just a few improvements could really make a difference

The holiday house is lovely and in a great location. Everything was clean and tidy for our arrival. We had a lovely stay and no issues. The only thing we could be picky on is the condition of some of the interior fittings and equipment. The cutlery could do with a refresh. Some of the kitchen cabinets could also do with a spruce up and one of the handles was broken with tape round it. Lie a lot of holiday houses, there was nowhere to hang coats and nowhere to store shoes. No hooks! Why do holiday homes never have hooks! If you are considering Oakura for a break, overall we would highly recommend it. For the owners - a few improvements as per above would take it to 5 stars!

Great location, house needs attention

The house has not been deep cleaned in a very long time. We killed a minimum of 15 spiders during our 3 nights there…one of which was LARGE and in the bed during the middle of the night. We had a water emergency and it took us 4 calls and over 30 minutes combined of our morning to even get someone to answer the phone (even their emergency line). Luckily the water issue was the shower would not turn off, but the water was contained to the bathtub. Otherwise the entire upstairs would have flooded before anyone answered the phone. As a result we only had the very tiny shower to use (master bath was out of commission) for 2/3 of our stay. The agency felt $60 NZ was an amount that we should have been grateful for. I was not overjoyed with this based on the level of the issue, but also did not want to waste any more holiday time dealing with them. Summary: house is in a great spot but until it is under different management with better cleaning I would not stay here again.

Gorgeous Views

Lovely setting, view stunning. Plenty of space especially in the upstairs bedroom, bathroom and alcove. Generous sized dining table. Good lighting especially for those who like to read in bed. Comfortable. Easier access to the beach at the end of the street than from the rental. There were negatives as described below, but overall a good stay.Downstairs' bathroom very cramped. No instructions on operating anything in the rental. Had to call rental company, Bach Break. They sent someone out who showed how the oven worked but who also could find no instructions on property. All too late in time for dinner. Microwave quirky, worked sometimes and not others. With instructions we might have been able to master its operation. There is a washer but no dryer. There is a clothesline and things dried quickly as it was summer, but the clothespins are all rusty and covered with spider webs. Potential for staining clothes due to the rust.

Beach view

As soon as we walked in could smell the cleanliness of the place. Beautiful decor. Comfortable sofa and great having sky. Loved listening to the waves and close to amenities. So easy to relax and put your feet up. Love the track to the beach and beautiful sunsets

Has Potential But ...

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Chester Cottage could be a lovely place if some upkeep and maintenance was done. There is no shelf or storage space in the second bathroom. The steps down to the beach need to be repaired and the shubbery needs to be cut back. Take down all the cobwebs would make it much cleaner. Maintaining and trimming all the bushes and shrubs would allow better views of the ocean and all around. The bedrooms were adequate. The kitchen had too many unorganized drawers and cupboards -- a thorough cleanout and purging of duplicates and old items would be a good idea. When Bach Break management was contacted requesting a replacement for a broken item, there was no response at all.
