"This is a hard review to write as the staff was polite and the hotel very clean. I just can’t say it was an overall good vibe as an American. Very limited English from staff. We have very limited Japanese, just the basics (hello, thank you, excuse me). I have tattoos so not allowed in the onsen. I understand the yakuza thing, but it’s 2026 and I’m clearly an American and I thought no one looks or judges you in onsen? The hotel while very clean is very dated and depressing. "An absolutely incredible hotel set within a stunning forest. You can watch the wildlife from the windows. We saw deer, a fox, birds including woodpeckers, butterflies and stag beetles. The onsen was great, especially the outdoor pool and the food was fantastic"

"Wonderful traditional Japanese room overlooking the lake. Unfortunately only had one night and was unable to try the traditional meal service. The hotel overall feels like a period piece from the 70s in a good way, and everything is very well maintained. The large onsen area (strictly no tattoos allowed) was great for winding down after a day of exploring. Would stay again."
