Welcome to the Charming Riverfront Victorian — a magnificent, historic 1890 Victorian home on the riverfront in Ottawa, Illinois, steps from downtown Ottawa, and made for bringing a large group together under one roof.
This is a home for families, reunions, friends travelling together, and celebrations where everyone wants to stay close, not scattered across hotels. With 5 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, it sleeps up to 18 guests in comfort, with space for everyone to sleep well and gather easily.
Sleeping is arranged to suit couples, families, and larger groups alike. Two bedrooms each have a king bed, perfect for couples who want a spacious room of their own. Two bedrooms each have a king bed plus a queen bed, ideal for families or friends sharing a room without feeling crowded. The fifth bedroom has a queen bed plus a pullout couch, giving that room flexibility for an extra guest or a child. The bright, welcoming sunroom also has a pullout couch, and two rollaway beds are available when needed, so the home can comfortably reach its full capacity of 18.
One of the best things about this home is how easy it is to eat together, even with 18 people. The formal dining room seats 8 to 10 on its own, for a special dinner or a holiday table. With the adjacent casual dining room, the home can seat up to 18 for a meal together, so no one has to eat in shifts. The first-floor kitchen table seats 8 for casual breakfasts and coffee, the second-floor kitchen has a table with 8 seats at and near the kitchen island, and the adjacent sunroom has another table for 8, filled with light. Out on the river-overlooking porch, two tables mean all 18 guests can sit together at once, enjoy a meal, and take in the view.
Daily life in the house is just as easy. There are warm, character-filled sitting and living rooms for relaxing, reading, chatting, or playing games together, comfortable bedrooms across the home, and well-equipped kitchens on both floors, so cooking for a crowd, or just making a quick snack, never feels like a bottleneck. The home has high-speed Wi-Fi and air conditioning throughout, keeping everyone connected and comfortable in every season.
Mornings can start slowly on the porch, looking out toward the river. Afternoons can be spent exploring, and evenings can be spent back together in the living rooms, around the dining tables, or out on the porch as the day winds down. The historic Victorian character — the rooms, the details, the sense of a grand old home — makes the stay feel special, not just practical.
Location is a big part of the experience here. You're steps from downtown Ottawa, with its shops, restaurants, and small-town charm close at hand. You're also close to a walk along the Fox River and the I&M Canal, perfect for a morning stroll, a bike ride, or simply enjoying the water and the scenery. Starved Rock State Park is about 10 minutes away, with its canyons, waterfalls, trails, and spectacular views, making a day trip easy for hikers, photographers, and families alike.
Please note there is no private river access at the house itself, but kayak rentals are available nearby near Starved Rock, so a day on the water is still easy to arrange.
Whether you're planning a family reunion, a getaway with friends, a holiday together, or simply a spacious, comfortable base for exploring Ottawa and Starved Rock, the Charming Riverfront Victorian gives you room to sleep, room to eat, room to relax, and a beautiful riverfront setting to enjoy together.
