Palazzo del Poeta is spectacular! After a very challenging drive into town (so many missed turns and one-way micro alleys!), we were feeling a bit shell-shocked at our first time in bustling Palermo. Il Giardino di Ballarò is a small boutique hotel located right in the center of the old, historic part of Palermo not more than a 10 min walk from most of the sights. It is a very cozy and modern accommodation, and has a lot of character. We felt very welcomed as soon as we walked in - the staff is very welcoming and friendly, offered us refreshments and then provided us with a lot of useful sightseeing and dinning tips. Nice breakfast that you can have inside or in the outdoor private garden....

The property was quirky and obviously under development. The quirkiness was quite nice, and the owner provided breakfast to order himself. We needed a transfer to the airport on the last day, this was facilitated for us, and the owner offered to prepare breakfast especially early in the circumstances. Excellent boutique hotel located with easy walking access and proximity to Old City sites. Charming room with high ceilings and large private balcony adjacent to reception/bar/breakfast room/lounge on the top floor. Effervescent staff who are eager to suggest best ways to spend time in Palermo and make dining reservations on behalf of the guests. Reception hours are limited to two shifts organized around breakfast (served 8:30-10:00) and afternoon/evening (4:30-8:30).

If you are American, you probably have an impression of Best Western as a pretty mediocre hotel chain. This is NO Best Western! The Hotel Principe de Lampedusa is just marvelous. We had a classic triple room, which was very spacious, had very high ceilings, travertine marble floors, a nice sized bathroom and our own small, private patio. AC and shower work great. It’s a beautiful hotel on one of the main streets of Palermo with easy and quick access to the historic city. (If you are a light sleeper or not used to city noises, this may be a little too loud for you. It did not bother us - we enjoyed the vibrancy.) They had a beautiful and delicious breakfast with lots of variety of hot and cold food. Our suite was very spacious, beautiful and nicely designed. All in all, it was lovely.
