"Place was amazing. Just know what you’re getting into. First off know that you’re off the grid. And there is absolutely zero cell phone signal and while there are certain locations on the ranch that does have Wi-Fi my particular cabin did not. Secondly, you do have to go on a 3 mile dirt road after traveling approximately 13 to 15 miles off the beaten path. I particularly didn’t mind this. In fact this is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a place to where I could shoot photography for the stars a place that was dark and so having an area that was off, the beaten path was exactly what I wanted. They had a restaurant there that had absolutely fantastic food. They also had a pool which I did not use. Apparently, according to what I read, you can fly into there if you should so shall choose. As there is an airfield. When you read about their history, you can take in the fact that they once partnered with the Shelby corporation to establish the Terilinga racing league. There’s a lot of history there. There’s also hiking which I did take part in do so at your own risk.
Outside of the lodge, you’re about 20-40 minutes from Big Bend national Park. There’s also a big bend State park. Furthermore, there’s a Terilinga ghost town which has fantastic ice cream and a place called the starlight theater that had live music too!
Overall, if you know what you’re getting into it’s a wonderful place to go and I quite literally enjoyed my stay there And I am eager to go and return."
"The Chiles' barndominium made for the perfect basecamp for my family as we explored all of the must do's in the area. The host were friendly, welcoming. We saw mule deer from the privacy and javelina while soaking in the hot tub. Our stay at the Chiles' barndominium was nothing short of incredible. It served as the perfect basecamp for exploring everything the Big Bend area has to offer. The location gave us a true taste of the Texas Big – wide-open skies, rugged beauty, and a peaceful atmosphere that made it hard to leave. The hosts were warm, welcoming, and made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. "Our first time to the Big Bend area. The house felt like home right away. It was exactly as described. He felt like we were visiting grandma. The porch swing was a perfect way to end the evening with a glass of wine. Plenty of space to explore. Thank you, I would not change a thing. "
"The property is great, very spacious and the beds were comfortable. The facility was clean, overall it was a great stay. The kitchen was well stocked, and had everything we needed. Outside/yard activities were great for our 5 and 8 year old. We got to make s’mores and woke up one night at 3am and got go up the container and were able to see the Milky Way! It was such a great experience. We got to hear the coyotes howling at night, that was a very cool experience. We were a short 45-min-drive away from big bend, the drive into the property was easy to find and had no issues with our jeep wrangler and Nisan kick. We brought all our supplies from Walmart in Del Rio, but found a small convenient store in Terlingua “cottonwood” between the home and big bend that was fully stocked with anything and everything you could possibly imagine from contact solution to electrolytes (for a higher than usual price) but if need be, it’s a great location to find stuff that you might have forgotten. Overall we had a great experience, we had no issues with communication with the host, they provided excellent service, I would def recommend it. "
Christmas Mountains Ranch: Classic 2br/1bth Cabin with Spacious Wrap Around Porc
10/10 Excellent
"Loved the cabin. Super cute decorated inside. Very well kept and equipped with all household items needed. Loved the outside area. Wrapped around porch with nice seating areas and even out in the dessert had a couple more chair areas to chill with your family and soak up the peace and quiet of the place. We all loved the view all day long. We had planned to go to Big Bend and my kids preferred to come back to the cabin and just enjoy the scenery and the peace. We look forward to coming back and visit this exact site. Thank you for providing such a cozy home with such beautiful views. Oh and the night sky is breathtaking. "
