If you are looking for just a gentle stroll, take a wander into the popular market town of Penrith which has an array of independent shops, delightful arcades and numerous pubs, cafés and restaurants.
On the edge of the Lake District National Park, you can soon be on the shores of Ullswater, or enjoying a scenic ride on the lake’s famous steamers. Fell walkers have an abundance of classic paths from which to choose, from gentle low-level strolls to demanding hikes up Helvellyn. There are numerous castles in the area to explore including the imposing Lowther Castle and Gardens with a huge adventure playground for the kids, whilst Hutton in the Forest has numerous outdoor events including the Wannasee Music Festival which hosts top live tribute bands from all around the world. For a more relaxing day drive into the stunning Eden Valley with its lush green countryside and traditional towns and villages with a trip on the Settle to Carlisle railway which runs through the Eden Valley.
