The Guest House

This is a new private residence on a wooded acre only a short drive from downtown, short walk to great restaurants and miles of paths begin just down the block. Clean and tranquil, our goal is to provide a 5 star experience in a fully furnished home.
The space
The Guest House is a 900 square foot independent and fully furnished dwelling located next to our home on a forested acre in the outskirts of NW Portland (about 5 miles over the hills of Forest Park from "the" NW Portland neighborhood). Our neighborhood is quiet and full of wildlife from deer, a blue heron, and wild rabbits. At night you may hear the coyotes however you will rarely see them. The neighborhood is nestled between busier neighborhoods which bring small restaurants and shops close by as well as easy access to great running & biking paths. There are large windows in all of the living spaces that look out over the green space and trees. The bedroom has blackout shades should you need to sleep in or during the day.

The Guest House is an ideal home away from home for someone working at Daimler, Nike, Intel, or any local company. We have upgraded our internet to 1 GIG to accommodate working from "home." It is an ideal space for relatives or grandparents who are in town to visit, but would like their own space. The dwelling also serves as a wonderful vacation spot for people who would like to explore the greater Portland area. It is a location from which you can take day trips to the coast, Mt. Hood or wine country.
Guest access
The Guest house is a fully equipped one level house with an attached garage (space for up to a midsized vehicle). The Guest House will be the guest's private space during their stay. It is a separate space connected to the primary residence only by a covered patio. A garage door opener and keys will be provided during the stay.

No access to the primary residence is allowed.
Other things to note
Having a car is recommended.

We have what would be an underground pool on our property that is functionally a fish pond. It is not beautiful, however it does attract a blue heron who will sometimes stay all day and feed on the goldfish (hopefully not catching the koi). Eventually, we will have a pool with hot tub;-)

What's nearby

  • The California Condor was a common sight along the Columbia River in Lewis and Clark's day. By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California.

Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured.

The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home.

For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild.

If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal.

If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud.

Either way, you won't be bored for a second.
