Captain Lock's Cottage(featured on 'Postcards') Open Fireplace and Pet Friendly


Open fireplace to toast your marshmallows! Enjoy Phillip Island's oldest cottage. Beautiful views over Westernport Bay. Cosy in winter and relaxing in summer. For a very special experience this is a beautiful home restored to it's original charm in a picturesque setting with tranquil views overlooking beautiful Swan Bay. Suitable for couples, families or groups. Open fire place, vaulted ceilings, chandeliers and old world charm blend together with modern day comforts. The house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living areas, large country kitchen and dining with a wood stove for home style cooking and for the less adventurous, microwave, electric hotplate / oven and BBQ. There is also a herb garden and lemon tree to compliment the best cooking.

The two delightful double bedrooms with comfortable period furnishings and main bathroom form a parents' retreat from the rest of the house. Two additional bedrooms have single beds. There are two bathrooms, one with a separate shower and enormous claw-foot bath to soak in, the other a shower over bath. Linen can be provided at an extra charge of $30/bed. Walk through the French doors of your bedroom to the expansive deck and enjoy the breathtaking views across the bay or enjoy the ambiance of the 100 year old orchard and cottage garden.

Experience the charm of historic Rhyll with only a 5 minute drive to the Island's main town, Cowes, the Penguin Parade and the Grand Prix track. In the cool of the evenings relax on the deck or in front of the open fire and take in the ambiance of beautiful Swan Bay. Perfect for couples, families or groups.

Step back in time when you stay at Captain Lock's Cottage

We enjoyed our first visit last December so very much we returned for a second visitThis property is nothing short of spectacular from the beautiful cottage , pretty garden and breathtaking viewsThe beds are comfortable with lovely linens, very clean with an excellent floor plan for family/friends get togethers. Cousins catching up

A fantastic two night stay with cousins who don’t see each other very often. We are the 5th generation of Captain Lock’s direct descendants and it was so special to be staying in the home he built and our parents lived in.

The house is beautiful

Apart from having to provide our own sheets and towels everything else was perfect! Just don’t open windows as most are broken and the fireplace was blocked or not cleaned so smoke was coming into the room, the size and location is perfect and we all enjoyed our time together in the house

Beautiful beach get away

I had an amazing stay at this home in Rhyll! The place felt incredibly homely, with a beautiful garden that was perfect for relaxing and soaking in the peaceful surroundings. It’s just a quick walk from the beach, so I could enjoy the ocean breeze and stunning views whenever I wanted. The house itself is gorgeous, with thoughtfully chosen furniture that gives it a cozy, welcoming feel. The host clearly put a lot of effort into creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, and it shows in every detail. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway by the beach, I highly recommend this stay. It’s truly a gem, and I can’t wait to return!

Most gorgeous cottage

Great location in a beautiful historic cottage. Absolutely love the place. Would definitely recommend Locks Cottage. Tons of room. Beds were comfortable. We didn’t use the kitchen but it looked fine.

No herb garden as advertised. No hot tub as advertised. No firewood supplied. Felt 'cold' with no 'feelz' just a business venture. Won't be booking this place again.

Oldy-worldy charm in quiet location

A lovely old cottage with all mod cons in a quiet street just a minutes walk to the water. Views of western port bay from the deck, and it was lovely to be able to open all the doors and take advantage of the wrap around verandah and the multiple sitting areas to just relax with a book and a drink. Our second time staying here and hopefully not the last.

Girls weekend

The three of us loved the cottage. Beautiful water views. Lovely verandah to sit with a cuppa or wine. Spacious, beds comfortable, peaceful. Easy walk to jetty and cafe. We came across Outback Chef's Wild Food Farm. Had a lovely breakfast and meander through their bush trail. Walking distance from cottage. Highly recommend staying at Captain Lochs.
