Adventure Hotel Hellissandur

"When I sat down to write this, I was intending to give this hotel less than a 5-Star rating. This is because when I showed up to check in, there was a sign at the unmanned reception desk that they were doing "Self Checkins" that night, with absolutely no directions on how to accomplish that. There was a number listed to call in case of problems, but the cell service on my US phone was spotty pretty much everywhere in Iceland. It took multiples times of restarting my phone to get a mobile operator connection (while sweating bullets for about half an hour over the prospect of having to spend the night in the lobby) and talked to someone that directed me on how to get into my room. The hotel had emailed me those directions, but I was way too busy to check my mail while travelling. To be fair, this apparently was a "one-off" and not a frequent occurrence at his hotel. They apparently had some kind of an issue that night. As far as the hotel and room, I have no complaints whatsoever. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. However, a TV in the room would have been nice. The staff (the next day) was exceptionally friendly and helpful. This is a good central location from which to explore the Snaefellsnes Peninsula."

"This was such a great find, we would highly recommend a stay at Hotel Budir. We wanted a central location while we spent a couple days exploring the Snæfellsnes peninsula and this was perfect. The hotel offers 5/5 dining and customer service. Yes it is pricey but worth it, especially as there are limited grocery and restaurant options on the peninsula. Our room was beautiful and there are multiple lounging areas on the first and second floor to read, play games, etc. If you wake up early you may also get little black church to yourselves!"

"Modern design. We appreciated the floor to ceiling windows with beautiful views of Kirkjufell and the bay. Heaters worked well. Kitchen appliances all worked well. Comfortably bedding. Previous individuals who booked the place took the key so no key was available to us to use during the stay so we could not lock the accommodation. No towels in the accommodation for us to use for the evening we checked in. No response despite calling/texting both numbers provided and messaging through Expedia. We had to grab towels in the morning for ourselves from the next door accommodation. We received a response only at noon the following day and were brought towels that afternoon. The shower is a clean design, but the floor pitch is poor and water goes all over the bathroom floor. The owners know this and provide a large squeegee-like mop for you to manage this. Overall, outstanding location and views. I hope the managers will work on better communication and fix the floor pitch to improve the experience."

"Great home base to visit the attractions on the peninsula. We were very impressed with how comfortable we were, very clean, very convenient. We stayed in the cottages and purchased the breakfast for the morning and it was all wonderful. It was a perfect start to our trip."
