This place is like a diamond in the rough! Marsha is fantastic! There when you need her with a simple call. Beautiful OH riverfront, the town is just simple & Fun, they are friendly & welcoming. Had a great visit. The room is simple but homey & comfortable. We will definitely stay here again when down south!
This is a very unique, historic hotel overlooking the scenic banks of the Ohio River. The room was cozy, clean and very comfortable. I also appreciated the second-floor balcony, which provided a lovely view of the river, as well as the complementary tea/coffee supplies. I highly recommend this traditional hotel, especially for history lovers and explorers in search of memorable experiences!
Staying with Marsha at the Empire House is like staying at your grandmothers. Though your grandmother's front door likely did no open to reveal a glorious panorama of the Ohio River.
Love this place and the small-town vibe of Rising Sun.
Fantastic historic place. Comfy bed, lovely clawfoot bath, cheerful kind owner. Nothing super fancy, just a sweet place to stay for a good price with beautiful view of the river in charming town
I don't normally write reviews, but I felt I had to for this place. The owner thought of everything! She was extremely nice on top of that! In the bedroom, I felt I had stepped back in time, it even had a brass bed and a claw foot bathtub!
If you want a sterile, modern, no-name place...don't stop here. But if you want Charm, authentic hospitality and a front porch to sit on while you watch the sun rise over the river...This a must!!!
Pros: Location was good across from river and next to a mostly closed downtown area. Check-in and price was great. Cons: Bathroom space and cleanliness ( dirty washable fingerprints and marks on walls) tiny size of room, long-term tenants with drama, the absolute dingy-est towels I’ve ever seen. I really didn’t even want to dry off with them. Otherwise served its purpose.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
The bed was very hard & very small. The room was also pretty small. The room was super cold & then in the middle of the night it got very hot. There was a bad odor coming from the bathroom, also. It didn’t have a fridge in it, but there was one in the hallway that ppl could share. It was quiet there & there was a nice view of the river across the street with places to sit.

The owner was super nice and made us feel like we were family.
Beautiful location overlooking the river. Staff was very friendly. Mattress could be replaced. It sinks in the middle quite a bit. It was ok for a night, but would have been rough any more than that. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay!
The hotel and town was like being in a storybook......the facilities were excellent and we would highly recommend this as a definite stop on your route.
Had a lovely stay at the Empire House Hotel. The hostess was very welcoming, the location across from the river is lovely, our dog was welcomed and they are very pet friendly. Would recommend.
This is an amazing gem tucker away in rural Indiana if you like history or just beautiful views of the river this is the place for you lots of dining and entertainment options within walking distance as well
Very nice owner, friendly and kind. I highly recommend! Hoping to visit this area again soon. Found all of the folks in this area to be extremely nice.
Very quiet and peaceful, the over 200 year old hotel had charm. Management was friendly and helpful. We would gladly stay there again. The view of the Ohio River and the walkway was a nice treat. Price was quite affordable as well.
