"I recommend Tuani Lodge for nature lovers and those looking for a cabin-in-the-jungle experience. The road to get to the lodge is very dark, poorly marked, bumpy and uneven so a vehicle with 4-wheel drive and a lot of clearance would be best. We got a small bit of damage from driving in our small SUV. That being said, once you're on the highway it is not far from town and it is a very cool experience feeling so remote and close to nature. "Come here for authentic Nicaraguan lifestyle. Simple bedrooms, cold showers and Mom's cooking. Mark is very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Mark hosts every meal and invited guides to inform us about hiking the volcanoes and arranged a 4-wheeler to come directly to the hostel which was very convient. "I've been coming back for more than 20 years, even before the new owners upgraded everything. This hotel is the best value in San Juan Del Sur. Next to cathedral and main park, walk to everything. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and fully bilingual. The neighborhood while very close in is quiet and safe. Its just below Pelican Eyes at half the price. Rooms and beds light, airy and comfortable even at the lower price point. All town's amenities are a few steps away."

"We loved our stay at Totoco. Our bungalow tucked along the jungled hillside provided the perfect little escape into nature our family was craving. Being from a big city, the insect sounds at night did take us some getting used to, but it was so cool waking up to the howler monkey calls in the morning, and we loved checking out all the beautiful flowers and interesting critters along the path between our place and the main common areas. The views from everywhere are absolutely stunning, and we loved spending lazy afternoons splashing around in the pool or reading books in one of the seating areas or hammock on our front porch. The staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious, especially the chicken soup and coconut curry. We would be happy to stay here again."

"Pros Amazing, gorgeous, breathtaking private beach with palm trees and white sand, kayaks, hamacs, private spaces for each family. Room concept is really cool, no walls, just screens, we had the forest view one and really enjoyed the plunge pool with the kids. Would recommend this one with kids, it’s close to the main area and they liked the pool. The bed was really comfortable and the room felt new and clean. Employees go above and beyond, my son got sick and they gave us electrolytes and sent a cleaning crew after dark to pick up vomit. Security took care of us at 2:00 am for our luggage to the airport. Breakfast is included and pretty good. There are hiking trails onsite where you can find monkeys. The pool comes with a spa, heating it would’ve been nice but it was still appreciated. Massage service is available but pretty expensive, like all the amenities. Cons We paid 150$ usd for a one hour tour that we could’ve done by foot. Food was crazy expensive and good but nothing spectacular, 50-70$ usd for a plate in Nicaragua is insane. We recommend the pizza for lunch which is the only more affordable option (20 USD per pizza, feeds about 1 person) Airport shuttle was 288$ usd, we took our own for 85$ usd. A fridge in the room and black our blinds would be good additions. I would still absolutely recommend this hotel but bring your own car so you can eat out and do tours. It’s only 20 minutes from the main city of San Juan Del Sur. We will return (with a rental car)"
