On the negative side: my room was not very clean. There were fleas. On the positive: the location is very convenient, when I called the front desk about the room, the staff was very nice and switched my room immediately, and you can't beat the price.

Bedroom and bathroom were relatively clean and comfortable. Lobby was nice to stay in for breakfast as well, only had a microwave. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. There's a small cafe beside it that offers discounts for guests. Location was conveniently close to many bus stops, BART, and a few museums, city hall, library, civic plaza, etc. So, I was mostly out elsewhere in the city taking public transit or scooters. However it was very noisy at night, I could hear police sirens and roadwork all night through the windows. Some streets were not the safest, but it was still busy enough for locals to pass by. Decent hotel for budget of 77/night, very old school.

It is a very nice hotel but there is no hot water in the showers. Cold or luke warm water only. If the weather is cold outside, it is going to be terrible to take cold or luke warm shower. I wouldn't recommend if you prefer hot showers. But lobby area is very clean.

Our stay was great for the budget price . Bed was comfortable , loved the old tile in restrooms but shower had low water pressure, we managed though .Loved the coffee shop next door, also gives a discount for staying with Embassy. No fridge, microwave, or A/C which would have been helpful this trip, but with the window opened fresh air cooled the room down. Also at check In front desk was not very welcoming or knowledgeable but check out was an ease and staff was great. Do need to pay for parking, paid $60 for two days, is gated and had no worries about our car. We could see it from our room. Overall a good hotel. Location wise ok homeless are around but entrance was clear of them. Food and Store right next door also, very convenient.

The room was fine for a one night stay. Wish there was a fan or some way for there to be airflow during the night without opening a window

Although this is an older property, it has incredible charm and captures the true spirit of San Francisco. Having stayed here since the 1980s, I’ve seen it through all its stages, and I’ve always felt completely safe and comfortable. The location is ideal—transit options and major sights are just steps away. The staff is consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful. While it may not offer the flashy amenities of larger chain hotels, I come to experience the city rather than a hotel pool. It is fantastic value for the money and always a wonderful stay!

I booked two rooms for one night and both rooms looked clean but when it came time to shower the bathrooms were not clean at all there was hair on the walls and it seemed like they totally skipped the step of disinfecting the bathroom after the last visit. The building is old and doesn’t have ac which weather didn’t seem to be a problem for us. The location of the hotel is on a very busy street that has lots of homelessness and when it came night time our windows were open for a breeze and it seemed every five minutes there was screaming, screeching, ambulance sirens, honking. The hotel ran out of extra pillows, we had two full sized beds with two people in each with only one pillow on each bed. The other room I booked had two pillows on each bed so it just seemed unfair. The small issues we came across were annoying but for a one night stay it wasn’t awful.

The hotel has a lot of character, and it was cool staying in an original hotel building. Great little coffee shop attached as well. The cleanliness however wasn’t up to how I expected (hair in shower when we arrived, and stained pillow cases that didn’t fit the pillows). The area as well didn’t feel the safest if you ventured from the hotel and so we got taxis back most nights.

Room had everything I need, area may be unsafe (heard someone breaking things outside on my second night), but that's outside of the hotel's control. For the price, everything was decent.

Staff seemed very friendly. The hotel itself was pretty dated and elevator was slow and I had to use stairs to go down from the 5th floor. The room also dated and hard to find the outlets to charge my phone. I was there for one night in the end of June and I felt a bit cold in the room. Also I could hear someone screaming outside, of course it was not the hotel’s fault. I wish the city was much nicer environment. This hotel was very easy access to downtown attractions and only 30 mins bus ride to the beach too.

Definitely an old place, but I found it cool & interesting. Very art deco. Everything was clean and worked as it should. The people at the front desk were very friendly & helpful. We were close to the 5 bus which helped us get most places we needed to go. Apparently the area was supposed to be unsafe but I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary (Yes, there were unhoused people, some who were obviously having difficulty with mental or substance issues, but not more than any other large city). We got way more than expected with the price we paid.

The front desk guy was wonderful, very friendly and helpful. The room did not have AC and it was pretty warm the first day we were there but we were able to open up the windows and that was enough to keep our room comfy but if it was any hotter it would have been uncomfortable especially in the elevator and halls. The hotel’s location makes it easy to access different points of interest throughout the city, but the neighborhood is kinda sketchy once you get a couple blocks away (at night esp, but we didn’t have any problems at all) It was a clean cheap hotel centrally located with friendly staff, checked all the boxes for us besides AC. Parking lot is safe $30/night with an attendant there watching over during the day so I felt extra safe leaving my car all three days.
