Great location next to a bus station. Just I don’t like the guy that’s managing it kind of mean and rude to us . This place would be fully booked if the manager became more friendly. The hostels is great I met many friends. WiFi works everything is great just needs a friendly manager
I had a wonderful stay at European Hostel in San Francisco and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for clean, affordable, and comfortable accommodation. The location is excellent, with easy access to public transportation, restaurants, grocery stores, and many of San Francisco's top attractions, making it a great base for exploring the city.
The hostel was clean, well-maintained, and had a welcoming atmosphere. The dorms and common areas were organized, and the facilities were cleaned regularly. I always felt safe and comfortable during my stay.
The highlight of my experience was the outstanding customer service from the Front Desk Manager, Nick. He was incredibly professional, friendly, patient, and genuinely cared about every guest. From check-in to check-out, he went above and beyond to answer questions, provide local recommendations, and make sure everything was perfect. His warm attitude, excellent communication, and willingness to help made a huge difference and truly made me feel at home.
The entire staff was courteous and hardworking, creating a positive and respectful environment for everyone. If you're looking for great value, a convenient location, clean accommodations, and exceptional hospitality, European Hostel is an excellent choice. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to San Francisco. Thank you, Nick and the entire team, for making my stay so enjoyable!

Great location and great price. It was very quiet at night and we slept well
This youth hostel has a low rating but I've stayed more than 7 nights without any issues. Its centrally located and I always have a clean bed to sleep in. The manager is super nice and knows the area well. Always have some cash as he does charge a refundable cash deposit.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Budget Stay in San Francisco – Special Thanks to Nick!
I recently stayed at the European Hostel in San Francisco and had a very positive experience. As a budget traveler, I found the hostel to be affordable, conveniently located, and a great base for exploring the city. It is within walking distance of public transportation, downtown attractions, restaurants, and shopping areas, making it easy to get around San Francisco.
What truly made my stay memorable was the outstanding service provided by Nick at the front desk. From check-in to check-out, Nick was professional, friendly, patient, and always willing to help. He answered questions about the city, provided useful travel information, and made guests feel welcome and comfortable. His positive attitude and dedication to customer service created a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout my stay. Similar praise for Nick's hospitality and professionalism has been highlighted by other guests as well.
The hostel offers free Wi-Fi, common areas to meet fellow travelers, and an affordable accommodation option in a city where lodging can often be expensive. It is particularly suitable for backpackers, solo travelers, students, and anyone looking for a budget-friendly place to stay.
Travel Tip for Future Guests:
Before booking any hostel, always read recent reviews, understand the house rules, and choose accommodations that best fit your travel style and budget. If you're looking for an economical place to stay a
Great place not gonna lie and I’ve learned my lesson on reading reviews but the that runa this place even tho he did exactly what the reviews say he did let me stay and was somewhat of understanding. Like I said not a bad place to stay. It was kept clean and the surrounding area even tho it has its troubles not a terrible area just make sure you are not alone and/or don’t bother anyone.
I had a pleasant stay at The European Hostel. The location is convenient—close to public transport and just a short walk from many popular attractions in San Francisco. The front desk staff, especially Nick, was incredibly helpful, welcoming, and attentive to guests' needs, creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
The rooms were clean and the facilities were well-maintained. The common areas, including the kitchen and lounge, were great for relaxing or connecting with other travelers. Housekeeping staff did a good job keeping everything tidy and fresh.
Overall, it's a great budget-friendly option for solo travelers or small groups looking for a centrally located hostel with a community vibe. I would definitely stay here again!
My stay was 5 nights and I do not have any major complaints. The people I roomed with were nice and we did not get into each other's spaces. The room was relatively clean, just a few things from my roommates, but it does get pretty warm in there if you do not have your window open often. But gets cold if you leave it open during the night. Beds were comfy enough and the space provided to hold my belongings were perfect for my small luggage. The overall space of the room was a little smaller than expected for up to 6 people but if you're organized it will definitely work.
As for the bathrooms, there were a couple times where we ran out of toilet paper so maybe staff should be more aware of that. Possibly an investment in toilet seat covers would be great as well. The shower wasn't super dirty, minus the little bit of hair left, and the water got to really hot and cold temperatures which I really appreciated!
I did not use the kitchen really so I cannot comment much on it but when I was in there for a short time I seen a few bugs roaming. Not exactly sure which bug but none should be present at all.
Overall, my stay was fine. I was only there to shower and lay my head for the convenience of a short trip to work. So, if you plan to use the place as a stopping point while you are traveling or need to shower and sleep this would be perfect for a cheap option. The stay was worth/equaled the price compared to many other places in SF.
Side note: Do not recommend a car. Buses close

Decent Hostel
The hostel is doing a good job of renovating. The staff also take safety and security very seriously. Unfortunately, there is a lot of homeless people in the area. The building is older, but they have updated the bathrooms and added USB charging ports into the electric sockets.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Stay at The European Hostel – Thanks to Nick!
I had an amazing stay at The European Hostel in San Francisco, and honestly, everything exceeded my expectations. The rooms were spotlessly clean, the atmosphere was welcoming and calm, and the location is super convenient for getting around the city.
What truly made the experience exceptional, though, was the front desk staff—especially Nick. From the moment I arrived, Nick was professional, kind, and incredibly helpful. He went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable, answered every question with patience, and handled everything smoothly and efficiently. You can tell he genuinely cares about guests and takes pride in his work.
It’s rare to find someone who combines warm hospitality, clear communication, and true professionalism the way Nick does. He really sets the standard and makes the hostel feel like a safe, friendly home rather than just a place to sleep.
If you’re looking for a clean, well-run hostel with outstanding customer service, The European Hostel is the place to stay—and Nick at the front desk is a huge reason why. Highly recommended, and I would absolutely stay here again!

In itself everything very well, the only thing I didn't like was that in the kitchen I found a mouse and the armchairs in the living room are dirty, but the rooms and the rest are very good
The staff is very friendly, especially Nick, who always goes above and beyond to fulfill any requests we have. The bathrooms and common areas are clean and well-maintained. Nick consistently ensures everything is in order and that house rules are followed. While some guests can be very rude to him, he always handles the situation in a calm and professional manner. His dedication and respectful approach make a big difference in the overall experience.
I recently stayed at The European Hostel and had a great experience, especially thanks to the incredibly friendly and helpful staff. From the moment I arrived, they greeted me with a warm welcome and made me feel right at home. The front desk team was always ready to answer questions, give local tips, and assist with anything I needed during my stay.
Their positive attitude and genuine kindness really stood out—it made a big difference and created a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere throughout the hostel. Whether it was helping with directions, recommending places to eat, or simply having a nice chat, the staff truly went above and beyond.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly place in San Francisco with a personal touch and amazing service, The European Hostel is a great choice. Highly recommended for solo travelers and backpackers who value a welcoming environment!

Pretty good
For the price it is pretty good. The staff was very friendly and helpful - always there if you had any questions or needed assistance. However, it was noisier and dirtier than I had expected. The staff was cleaning frequently but I think the people staying there long term were just a bit messy.

Our stay was nice, We have stayed here a few times. When we stay here we get a one bed private room with shared bathroom. We love that there is a full kitchen for us to use, we enjoy being able to make our own meals. The room is a little on the small side and is literally just a bed in a room with no other furnishings, no table or tv.... Just a bed and a window that is located inside the building and across from another rooms window. The bathroom is nice and typically clean with plenty of hot water. The gentleman in the office is very nice. BE SURE TO READ THE INFORMATION THEY SEND YOU! CHECK OUT IS 10 AM SHARP! Also they require a $20 cash deposit for the rooms key card, don't loose the card, and you get your deposit back when you check out.
I had an absolutely amazing experience at The European Hostel! From the moment I arrived, I was warmly greeted by the friendly and professional staff who went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. The front desk team is knowledgeable, courteous, and genuinely cares about guests' comfort—Nikunj especially made the check-in smooth and gave great local tips!
The hostel is clean, secure, and well-maintained. The common areas are vibrant and great for meeting travelers from around the world. I loved relaxing on the rooftop terrace with beautiful views of the city!
What really stood out was the excellent service—whether I needed extra towels, help with my itinerary, or just a good conversation, the staff was always ready with a smile. The rooms are cozy and affordable, making it one of the best value stays in San Francisco.
If you're looking for a budget-friendly, centrally located, and welcoming place to stay, I highly recommend The European Hostel. I’ll definitely be back!
The services by Nick were impressive & courtesy. He showed me the alternative bus to airport & walked to show where the little bus stop is. I checked out early, and he was there to help. Facility is old & not so clean. No towel, mattress was old & thin. No bed bugs though.

San Francisco is a beautiful city, but the area where this hostel is situated has a high number of homeless individuals in difficult situations. Not everyone will engage with you, but there are many unstable people around, which might not be ideal for a solo female traveler. The hostel's facilities are below average, but considering the price, it can serve as a reasonable emergency option just for a place to sleep. On the positive side, the staff is friendly.
