Great value stay in a convenient location. Hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. The building is heritage, the rooms nicely done up, the shared bathrooms fairly small. Would stay again.

Great front desk experience, safe hotel/secure entrance, very, I had my window cracked open and it wasn’t noisy outside which was nice. I’ll stay here next time I’m in SF.

Very nice, clean. Comfortable, quiet hotel. Very comfortable bed. Excellent, cheap Indian food next door at Chutneys. Shared bath and shower are exceptionally clean.

if you plan on coming into town for vacation I have a recommend not cooking this property they do not allow gas and you have to be buzzed and every time you go or enter the property vary inconvenient I felt like I was being watched by a warden

DON'T BE SCARED OFF BY ANY MISCONCEPTIONS! Expect friendly, efficient staff to greet you at this secure, clean, newly renovated hotel. The location, a few steps off Geary, is conveniently located to vast parts of the city.

Hotel Layne was great the owner was really nice and the rest of his family was too. The room was tiny but clean and bed was comfortable. We were surprised that the restroom and shower were in different rooms out in the hallway they were also clean and well kept but water pressure in the shower was very low and we had to wait a while till the water got hot but other than that everything was great 😊

Above and beyond customer service, historic hotel

We had a wonderful stay at the Layne, from check in to check out. Yes, the neighborhood is a little sketchy, but the hotel is gated and we were advised by the management which streets were safer, which I appreciated as an out-of-towner. The location is very central and convenient. The staff was warm and helpful, and the hotel itself was beautiful, historic, and clean. The bed and shower were comfortable. Overall we had a great stay and would highly recommend.

This place took the time to refurbish during the covid horrors. The result is a very clean well-run hotel in an old Tenderloin building. The staff I dealt with were professional and friendly. This place is a little oasis in the middle of fentanyl destruction central. I was completely satisfied with my room and the property and would definitely stay there again.

Staff was very kind. The room was very clean and well kept. Only caveat was the lack of air conditioning but once I cracked the window, SF weather kept it cool. Hotel was on the brink of the unsafe part of downtown, but staff let me know to just avoid going down the street. It never felt unsafe. It was a little noisy at times, but what can you expect being downtown in a big city really? I would return if ever in SF again :-)

Nicely kept older hotel. In-room fridge and microwave are great. But, I could have used a coffee maker. Very friendly and helpful staff. Although, the area isn’t dangerous, there is much human urine and stool on the sidewalks (a sad condition in SF) in the area. Many dining options within a five minute walk. Close to public transportation including BART. Overall, a good hotel for the price.

This hotel was amazingly quiet and the hosts are very attentive. It has been years since my last visit to San Francisco and the homeless population is completely out of hand with half a dozen per block in this part of town. Only a few are clearly mentally ill, but it certainly gives a solitary female traveler pause. The hotel is secure with a locked front gate, but the city really needs a better plan.

Amazing staff, perfect room

A perfect place to stay! The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating!! The room is larger than I thought and the bed is large for one but smaller for two! Felt very safe as a female solo traveller- the locks on the doors don’t feel very safe or sturdy but I had my portable door lock so still felt very secure all night. Cannot rate the staff highly enough :) The room was clean and came with everything I could need. I had another trip planned for San Francisco a few weeks later but cancelled that hotel and rebooked this one!

There was no parking, and I got a parking ticket. Apparently where we were told to park from the hotel host is a cleaning area that starts at 6am. That was never told to us the night before. So there for I will not be coming back to this hotel.

The hotel was not at all the same like in the pictures. The room was tiny, the wifi was extremely slow. Terrible experience and not all what they advertised it to be. I do not reccomend this place. Highly dissatisfied.
