"Shower facilities - they don’t provide conditioner -when I tried to use the shower it was either scalding and the temperature didn’t alter with the controls, or no water at all came out from the shower head, only the bath taps - so couldn’t shower at all during the stay Lifts One of the lifts was out of order during the stay for refurbishment which left long queues and delays trying to get the lift down with the one functioning lift - on several occasions I had to walk all the way down, including in my heels for the party - as the lift had an alert that said overloaded. I could hear other guests on upper floors experiencing the same frustration and all having to walk down the stairs. One of the reasons for choosing the Vermont was to celebrate on the rooftop bar prior to my friend’s event - I had to leave the hotel and walk through cobbled streets to find a lift to reach it - again this was clearly due to refurbishments but with this kind of inconvenience customers should either be alerted prior to booking about disruption or the rate offered reflect the below-standard experience. Service I tried to book a rooftop bar table through reception and they said there was no need, but when we got there I was told that was incorrect and I did need a booking - luckily they managed to squeeze us in. I paid over £200/night and put in a request for a 50% refund at reception to reflect my poor experience when I checked out - three weeks later I’m yet to receive anything"

"Issues with the fridge (way to noisy so shad to switch off. Nothing in it anyway). No tv remote and the two bought to the room didn’t work. Kettle took some coaxing to work, finally producing hot water on the third attempt."

"This is a busy family and pet friendly spa hotel. The car park can be a long walk round to reception and they don’t advertise the short cut. The hotel was clean but the outside benches and furniture was mixed. Some benches had lots of bird droppings all over them and in emptied ash trays with water tide marks. The music outside was unnecessarily loud. The food and staff hospitality was very good though! With a cleaning and repair regime for the outside, it would be 4 stars."

Grey Street Hotel

"Room was very nice and the bed very comfortable. We had the Charles Grey suite and the layout was a bit interesting, though added to the unique charm of the hotel. Bathroom was immediately inside the entrance and the bedroom was down a flight of narrow stairs. There were other stairs to the suite as well, which made it slightly challenging to navigate with large bags. Know that going in. The shower was perhaps the only complaint. It was a nice, glasses in shower, but the design was a bit poor. If the shower door was not properly closed and the hand wand used, you could end up with water everywhere on the bathroom floor. Awkward really. The lobby was nice, the staff welcoming, and they even had a little plant "library" where you could borrow a plant and take it to the room for your stay. We were only there for one night, but it was a very cozy stay after what amounted to 24 hours of travel for us to get there. We slept like babies. Location was great, only a short walk from the train station and there was lots of shopping and dining options close by."
