This cabin was built for mountain & nature lovers who want to get away from it all but be close to so much: Shenandoah National Park/Skyline Drive, Luray Caverns, unique shops, markets, restaurants, fishing, horseback riding, wineries/breweries, historic sites, Shenandoah River & the slopes of Massanutten Resort. 

Managed by the owners and not a prop manager (so you get personalized attention), this property is perfect for couples looking for a romantic escape or small families/groups wanting beautiful mountain lodging close to major attractions. Impeccably clean home offers all pine interior construction, a large kitchen w/custom hickory cabinetry, super cozy living room w/fireplace, 2 BD outfitted in luxe Egyptian cotton linens, 2 full BAs, private hot tub under the stars, fireplace, outdoor fire pit, WiFi, and much more. Guests only need to bring their clothes, toiletries & groceries as your Hosts have provided everything else. Come relax and enjoy the mountains!

Guests have full access to entire home including front and side deck with hot tub, patio w/outdoor fire pit and Weber propane grill, and all outdoor acreage. Plentiful outdoor seating and very private.



The Barred Owl Lodge is located on Roundhead Mountain, easily accessed from a paved rural road and paved lane, 5 minutes to grocery/coffee/restaurants. It is privately situated on its own acreage, easily accessed by any vehicle, 4WD not necessary.

Minimum rental age is 24 years, no groups permitted. Max 4 adults plus 1-2 children possible (please inquire).

Great family stay

We enjoyed our stay. The house was spacious, had good amenities and was in a good location. The pre-checkout cleaning requirements did feel onerous and we also had a guy come cut the grass all around the house right in the middle of the day without any warning.

Cozy Little Cabin

We had a great stay, the cabin is very cozy and cute! There was no shortage of amenities, plenty of towels, blankets, books, games etc. The home is very clean and we loved the hot tub. The location was nice and close to the grocery and downtown Stanley, I just wish I knew that most of the Shenandoah trails are 45-60 min away. That being said, we loved the home and would stay again.

Great location, easy to find. Host gives clear instructions on how to find it. The cabin is a quiet getaway but still close to amenities, we forgot some things and grocery store was 6min away. Enjoyed the hot tub at the end of the day after hiking in the Shenandoah.

Beautiful modern and clean cabin

Barred Owl Lodge is a beautiful, extremely clean and modern cabin. Lisa and her family have thought of almost everything as linens, towels, all kitchen and bathroom items were available as needed for their guests. The only con: It's not as private as we liked personally, as the other cabins are just next door, with a very small separation of trees. Overall 5 stars as everything inside is perfect, clean, and working well. Also Lisa's communication and information packet was fantastic and made the trip easy. Thank you again!

The Barred Owl is a beautiful and extremely clean home with plenty of kitchen-ware, towels, etc. Located at the top of a hill, it is super private on a lovely property. The hot tub was clean and soothing, as well as there is a nice grassy area to build a fire and enjoy the weather or roast smores. I highly recommend and would go back!

Mountain Getaway

My wife and I took a short mid week getaway, a beautiful 2 hour drive from Northern Virginia. This was a fantastic property, very clean, everything is nicely laid out and the cabin is cozy, quaint and comfortable. The amenities are very nice and had everything we needed. The hot tub was a hit, nice outdoor fire pit and a gas grill for good measure. There are some nice eateries in nearby Luray and nice sight seeing opportunities close by as well. The owners are great with communication and very hospitable. Highly recommend for a couples getaway!

Beautiful Cabin in a Beautiful Setting

The Barred Owl Lodge was wonderful! The cabin was absolutely beautiful in such a beautiful setting! Because we stayed in March (with leaves off the trees) we also had great views of the mountains! The cabin was roomy, comfortable and very clean with awesome little touches like blankets to cozy up on the couch with! The fireplace with shelf of books and games was a fun family touch also! The wrap around porch with chairs and hot tub was lovely and there was even a firepit and grill area! Jim and Lisa are amazing hosts as they were great with lots of information about the area and cabin and easily available for any questions you may have! I hope we find our way back to Virginia in the future to stay with them again!

Beautiful, cozy cabin managed by extremely attentive owners

The cabin is beautiful, comfortable, and appears new. The owner provided extremely thorough pre-arrival instructions, including a list of local activities, hiking trails, and recommended restaurants. The cabin is equipped with everything one could imagine - clean linens, ample cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, and all the appliances one might need while away from home. We enjoyed using the hot tub and the outdoor grill and firepit; and we were particularly grateful for the pre-arrival information, which included a complete list of hiking trails. All check-in and check-out procedures were well-articulated. The owner even arranged to install a Roku device after the previous occupant reported that the DirectTV wasn't working properly. Having stayed in many other rentals, I had never received this level of comprehensive pre-arrival information or attention. I would absolutely stay in one of their rentals again.

The Barred Owl was a nice place to stay during our visit to Shenandoah National Park. It is close to Luray Caverns and one of the entrances to the NP. We loved the privacy of the property. It was a good size for our family of 4. The fully furnished kitchen and outdoor grill were nice to have since dining options were limited due to Covid. There are grocery stores nearby too. The hot tub was nice after a day of hiking. We really enjoyed our stay.

Booked a last minute stay at a different cabin that turned out to be unavailable but the owners graciously upgraded us to their larger cabin nearby. Cabin was fantastic. Very clean and comfortable. Jim and Lisa provided a wonderful cabin with a picturesque view and location. We could not have had a better trip! The cabin looks as if it was built yesterday. The attention to detail and additions to the property, such as the fire pit and hot tub make this cabin a winner! We would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone and would love to come back again!

Our family of four chose this cabin as our home base while exploring Shenandoah National Park. This cabin exceeded our expectations! It is a fairly new cabin, very comfortable, spacious, clean, has modern appliances, and is tastefully decorated with attention to the rustic, country theme. The owners have provided everything you could possibly need while staying in their “home away from home.” Should you desire to cook, the kitchen is extremely well stocked. Our damage deposit was returned the very day we departed. We highly recommend the Barred Owl Lodge should you visit this beautiful area. You will not be disappointed.
