St Johns Commandery, near Densole, Kent. A medieval chapel that was converted into a farmhouse during the 16th century. It has a fine moulded-plaster ceiling and a remarkable timber roof. It is now owned by English Heritage - internal viewing can be arranged through the local EH office.

"The property was not the standard I expect of Expedia. The heating was on a schedule such that at night the temperature in the house was around 6 degrees giving me a backache until I asked the owner to keep the temperature at a constant 23 degrees. "Truly a gem in the city centre, from a welcoming multifunctional lobby floor to clean, spacious rooms, a firm bed and a 58” TV. Breakfast buffet covers all the bases (except perhaps for the coffee). Comes with very good (~75MB) WiFi as standard. What’s not to like ??"

"The room was clean and looked like recently renovated. Nice breakfast. Staff were very helpful and friendly. However, the aircon in the room was very poor. Tried to increase the temp to 21 deg from the preset temp of 18 deg as it was -2 outside. It never ever got to 21 deg and in fact I never saw it above 18.5 deg. The fan was extremely noisey so turned it down to minimum but then of course the aircon would not respond to the 21 deg demand."
