"The Lodge was nice and clean and tidy and spacious, we loved the hot tub! In General a nice place, could do with a few maintenance updates, one of the single Divans have seen better days, the Shower in the Ensuite doesn't get very warm. All in all, its a very cosy lodge with some great added features a little bit of maintenace fixing this would then be an amazing break"

"We really enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect for York. Very walkable. Photos are accurate. I would stay here again if I was back in the area. "

"Nice flat, great view and location, convenient parking. Only drawback is the communal door between the flat and lift wouldn't open, so we had to use 3 flights of stairs to go through the garage every time."

"Beautiful apartment so close to the centre but in a really quiet area. We stayed for a week and didn’t use the car once. Perfect location. Handy to have a parking spot. The apartment was clean and spacious and fully equipped. Would recommend."

"Location excellent all within walking distance, from train station, never used the gym, stayed 2 nights went to Grand Theatre beautiful theatre.
Gorgeous city, York walls disappointing as you cant walk the whole way around there not complete and at one point we were looking how to rejoin them. Also walls have a shear drop to the side no barrier wirh areas of wall walk very narrow Another area we were walking on pavement along 4 lanes of traffic. Chester walls complete able to walk whole way around with walls either side of the path.Minster really worth a visit.
This hotel has an excellent Japanese restaurant Sora this was amazing.
Also had a brilliant saxophonist on the saturday night highly recommend will "
"Very disappointed with our stay at The New Holgate Hotel (27 Feb – 1 Mar 2026).
My son bought a Saturday night Double Deluxe room as a gift (£149). I phoned to add Friday and was quoted £128 with free parking for my husband’s disability badge. A manager later rang and promised to match the original price.
On arrival we were charged £210 for the extra night with an abrupt reception response and no explanation. Total came to ~£350 instead of the expected ~£270.
Despite knowing about the disability badge, we were given a top-floor room with stairs only. My husband (post-stroke, heart condition) struggled badly to reach it.
The room didn’t match the booking: confirmation stated a bath, but we had only a shower.
The hotel felt largely unmanned – on our first night the front door was left wide open, anyone could walk in. Very unsafe.
The building is basically an old house tarted up: creaky stairs, constant noise from people coming and going, impossible to sleep. Advertised as “spa-like” but it was just a standard, basic hotel. We were even given a cheap plastic wedge to prop the window open – it felt dangerous and nearly trapped my fingers.
At checkout they said the Saturday payment would be taken the next day, even though my son had already paid in full in December.
I emailed requesting a breakdown of the £210 charge, confirmation we weren’t double-billed, clarification of the room type, and an explanation for allocating a disabled guest a stairs-only room. No reply still."
"I had to move rooms three times because the first room was on the road, which was very noisy, the second room the heater was left on making it a sauna and the AC machine wasnt working, and the third room was ok, but heater outside was very noisy and the walls were paper thin as I could hear the neighbours talking, moving around, sneezing etc. The decor is very old fashioned and needs an update and the floors are very squeaky so you can hear others moving about and when I tried to walk quietly by other rooms, I couldn't. The breakfast was a nice variety however and had your basics and catered for other tastes. The location is good as its only about 5-10 minute walk the York Minster and the Shambles."
"I have stayed at this hotel before and was delighted to find that it's standards hadn't fallen at all. My room was clean and well laid out and had a lovely view of the river & the various boats going up & down. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food, especially the breakfast, is really good. York also has an amazing assortment of shops and various attractions to visit including the Minster, Yorvik, Barley Hall, The Railway Museum, the Castle Museum. I can also recommend the 4pm Adult slot at The Dig."
"Enjoyed staying at this Hilton hotel, room was very clean good quality bathroom suite, it seemed all newly decorated. Bed was very comfortable a good night sleep we had. Breakfast area very clean, and the hot food was superb with lots of other choices to help yourself too. All staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again. "
"Room comfortable with nice toiletries, staff very polite and helpful. The hotel is right in the heart of York with everything a short distance away. If you’re using the valet parking service it’s £35 per night and not £30 as stated on Expedias website. All in all a very pleasant 2 night stay. "
