"This is an authentic old-style ryokan with welcoming hosts who treat their guests like family. The building is very old and, being wooden construction, creaky and drafty, but also charming. The onsen was exceptionally clean and a wonderful first time experience for us. The breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious, with a variety of offerings we had never before encountered. We are westerners in our early 70s and were a little worried about sleeping on futons on the tatami mat covered floor, but we both slept well and appreciated this truly Japanese experience in the lovely city of Negano."

"Truly one minute from train station, very comfortable, very good breakfast buffet, free ice cream in afternoon, free ramen evening after 21:30, free washing machines with dryers 100 yen per 20 months minutes; separate men’s and women’s onsen very clean. Great value."

Great breakfast - with a view

"A short walk from the station with comfortable well equipped rooms. The breakfast was the best we have had in three weeks touring Japan lots of local specialities (soba, tempura grape leaves, interesting egg and tofu dishes etc) freshly prepared and of very good quality served in a top floor dining room looking out over the surrounding hills."

"For North American travellers, this hotel is much better than its rating on this site. My partner and I were in an executive level suite and I suspect that it was used for VIPs during the 1998 Olympics. Very spacious, comfortable, soaker tub and separate shower. Walking distance to restaurants, 5 minute drive to Nagano station (hotel offers free shuttle), and close to Zenkoji (temple). Beautiful property, excellent staff. Highly recommended. "
