Old Manor House site, Topcliffe Known as Manor Hills or Cock Lodge, this is the site of a medieval manor house belonging to the Percys. The view shows the outer ditch and bank in the foreground with the inner ditch [moat] and bank beyond. The conical mound was the site of a windmill. The manor is thought to have been erected in the 13th century and was described as 'ruinous' in a survey of the estate in 1577. The site is on private land and there is no public access.

"The room was lovely and clean. Staff were all friendly and helpful, even when we checked out the receptionist asked if there was anything else we would like help with. I thought this was a very thoughtful and nice thing to ask. The bar area was airy and well laid out and the drinks were reasonably priced."

"Beautiful hotel, very good customer service. Only downside was the breakfast. We were charged £17 per person for a pretty lacklustre offering. My husband requested pancakes which were on the menu for an additional £2.50, so we were expecting a spectacular stack as a result; what he got was a couple of shop bought small pancakes to go with a very dry sausage and one rasher of bacon. Given that everything else was top-notch in the hotel, we feel they should perhaps review their breakfast and invest in some local specialities for the price charged - and definitely not charge extra for a couple of floppy pancakes."

"This is an excellent hotel. Very good value for money, there is a free breakfast with lots of items. It is run of the mill standard English breakfast coffee options and juices and eggs. The hotel is located bang in the middle of town, right next to Clifford's hill. Book with confidence when traveling with families, you cant go wrong with Hampton Hilton York Piccadilly. "
