~ Pele’s Secret Garden ~ an amazing experience!
My home is registered with the County of Hawaii as a Short Term Vacation Rental STVR-19-346928 NUC-19-329 GE/TAT-037-026-0608-01

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park the the skies blue and the air quality is some of the best on the island. Visit the museum, art gallery, the Volcano House overlooking Hale'mau'mau crater. Take a stroll or a day hike in this vast and beautiful land of Pele. Pele's Secret Garden is in a great and safe location for exploring the east side of the island. Nestled in the heart of the Big Island's oldest Volcanic Rain-forest, and atop world's most active lava field, lies our luxury hideaway of rest, peace and comfort. Two miles from the National Park entrance.

My home is secluded in a lush native Rainforest just 24 Miles South of Hilo, Hawaii, and adjacent to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, at a 3500 feet elevation above sea level, on the slopes of Kilauea, the most active volcano on in the US. ~ About the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park ~
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, established in 1916, displays the results of 70 million years of volcanism, migration, and evolution -- processes that thrust a bare land from the sea and clothed it with complex and unique ecosystems and a distinct human culture. The park encompasses diverse environments that range from sea level to the summit of the earth's most massive volcano, Mauna Loa at 13,677 feet. Kilauea, the world's most active volcano, now taking a pause, offers scientists insights on the birth of the Hawaiian Islands and visitors' views of dramatic volcanic landscapes.

Over half of the park is designated wilderness and provides unusual hiking and camping opportunities. In recognition of its outstanding natural values, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has been honored as an International Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site.

The National Park Web site provides up-to-date information, tours, and hiking trails.

Paradise in a Tropical Forest
This was the exceptional award winning stay of all the places we stayed in during our two week visit to Kauai and the Big Island including resorts and VRBOs. Peggy, our host, is clearly felt in this lovely and well appointed home. This is not just a rental, but a home, beautifully constructed and furnished. Not that we do any less anywhere we stay, Peggy's home makes you want to care for it like it was your own. The cottage sits in what is essentially a rainforest like environment without the rain (I'm sure it gets rain because of the lushness, but not during our visit), and at dusk you are serenaded by tree frogs, which makes cocktails on the long deck a real treat. Peggy was always accessible for questions, and she is an exceptional host. Eggs were in the refrigerator, fruit on the counter, coffee beans with grinder were provided as well as sugar and coffee mate (I got my own half and half though). I highly recommend this cottage, only minutes from Volcano National Park.

Beautiful, comfortable home in a lovely setting!
Peggy's home is very well planned, eco-friendly, gorgeous, and includes a generously stocked kitchen. We loved the windows all around looking out into the rain forest. The flowers and fresh fruit inside were a lovely touch and we appreciated the juice, coffee, tea and food items on hand. The beds and living room sofa were comfy and check-in was easy once we realized the door is a slider and stopped trying to pull it open!

It was the highlight of our trip.
This felt like home from the moment we arrived. It worked so well as a home base for our days at the amazing National Volcano Park. Flowers, fresh fruit, beautiful artwork, and Peggy’s kindness made it hard to leave. It was the highlight of three weeks touring the islands.

Serenity in the middle of a beautiful rainforest
My husband and I absolutely LOVED our stay at Pele’s Secret Garden. We didn’t want to leave. The views from EVERY room are stunning; lush, green, and tropical. The only sound you’ll hear are the faint voices of the tiny birds who visit in the morning. We truly felt like we were in our own world…no traffic noise or even the site of neighbors. If you want to get lost in your own paradise, come and stay here and warm your soul by the exquisitely designed fireplace. Thank you Peggy for your wonderful hospitality and the delicious local fruits.

Great location, beautiful setting, wood smoke a problem
We would have given this place a higher rating but for an issue with wood smoke. First, the good. The home is a wonderful setting, surrounded by tropical forest, quiet, peaceful, minutes drive from town of Volcano and the park. It is spacious inside, great lanai for hanging outdoors, fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, good showers, and great to see use of solar power. Nice touches like fresh fruit and flowers. Now, the less good. When we arrived, the place smelled heavily of wood smoke, likely from prior guest use of fire place. This poor indoor air quality made my wife's asthma flare. We opened all doors/windows and ran fans to ventilate and while this reduced smoke smell some, it did not resolve the issue. The manager did not offer a solution but did offer us a refund if we wanted to leave (did not, as nearby accommodations not available). Maybe providing a HEPA air filter unit (e.g. BlueAir) would help. Because of this wood smoke issue, we cannot recommend place to anyone with asthma or other sensitivities to poor indoor air quality. Otherwise, it is a great place.
