"We were extremely disappointed to be confronted with a run down house which was badly in need of maintenance and nothing like the photos on the website. I stayed for 3 nights during local trail running race event. The place is really tidy and well maintained. I sensed the owners' passion for this place and Tongariro region. The kitchen is spacious, has large fridges and everything you need. You can bring your own food and cook without any hassles. The lounge is even better with pool table and table tennis table. There are two decent restaurants, a petrol station and 4-square supermarket nearby, so you can find all the essentials.

We got a double ensuite room and it was amazing! There were very few rooms around ours and it was really quiet for a hostel. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was nice and big. The kitchen is great and has newer appliances and cookware. I couldn't have asked for a better location in town and it was within walking distance of everything you could ever need. The breakfast place right next door (Lotus Cafe) had an amazing bacon and egg breakfast for only $9.50 NZD and we ate there every morning....
