Dryburgh Abbey Hotel

4/10 Poor

"Drove 200 miles arrived at 9pm to be told that the only food option was crisps or peanuts! Would not even offer and sandwich. The following morning I waited for 20 minutes without service for breakfast! Left and visited a local coffee shop."

The Tontine Hotel

"An old fashioned hotel with a fabulous brealfast in the old dining room. Lots of open fires. Unforunately the hotel is built over several levels with lots of creaking stairs . You will need help with your lugguage and it was provided. Hotel can be a bit noisy with the pub across the road and nearby construction. Safety handrails would be useful for getting out of the shower/bath."

"We booked a one night stay to have the "Scotland Castle Experience", and our experience was...ok. Beautiful property and stunning grounds. Our room was large, but a little disappointing for the price. There were also dead wasps all over our room. (not to mention a bug in my water glass in the restaurant later that night at dinner) Our dinner was pretty good, but instead of the beautiful, stately experience we were hoping for, the restaurant was in the basement and we were seated right next to the grill. It did not feel at all fancy...like, at, all. The food was very good (my husband highly recommends the haggis), so that helped. Was it worth the $898 CA(including dinner) that we paid? Sadly, no."

Carberry Tower Mansion House and Estate

"Beautiful looking property on the outside with the main areas inside full of history, one of the most historic looking hotelsi have stayed at, however, with all this charm you are led to expect the same for the room! I was staying in a " Classic " room. Whilst i appreciate this is not a suite, the room was very tired and shabby. The bathroom was tiny, barely room to move. The carpets old and filthy. The rooms need completely redocrating. At nearly £190 per night for a tiny shabby room is disgusting. The place needs new management. The breakfast offering is also not great. Lifeless dining area and poor quality. I wouldnt reccommend unless the room prices dropped or the renovated the hotel."

Kirkhill Estate Rooms

"I was extremely disappointed with the room and bathroom as there was black mould in the bathroom (behind the radiator and a bit in the ceiling) and in the room (behind in the curtain fabric). This is not a healthy environment particularly as I have a young child so very worrying. There was no reception staff to complain to. Also, the hot water sink tap was lose , the window could not be opened to air the room as a large furniture was placed in front of it. I have been to many hotel room thus was one was very poor. Extremely disappointing would not recommend."

Dalhousie Castle

6/10 Okay

"Grounds and castle were beautiful. Unfortunately spa facility’s were not open, nor were 2 of the 3 restaurants. Service was somewhat inconsistent, especially at the bar. We sat for 10 minutes before bartender acknowledged us, only after me asking if we could get a drink. Same experience in the restaurant - one night was great and next night we weren’t even offered wine and drink list. Very odd."
