"Overall , nice place. Pros: nice balconies, furnishings, landscaping, close to walkable beach, good fan coverage in primary house, peaceful and serene setting, amenities well covered. Cons: a little worn especially in the en suite kitchen, couple lights not working outside, HUGE bummer that there were no fans on the primary balcony. It's a nice balcony but late afternoon sun, humidity and mosquitos come would be greatly mitigated with fans. Fans would help immensly"

"It was a lovely property to stay at. I really enjoyed the clawfoot tub to soak in after a day at the beach. I enjoyed all the beautiful plants at the property. It was nice that they provided beach chairs to use. The north shore of Kauai is amazing!Donna responded very quickly whenever I had a question."

"Our stay at Hanalei Colony Resort was nothing short of exceptional—an easy 10/10! From the moment we arrived, we knew we had found a truly special place. If you’re looking for peace, relaxation, and the authentic beauty of Kauai, this is it. The location is absolutely breathtaking. Waking up to the lush mountains, listening to the waves, and enjoying the cool trade winds made every day feel like paradise. The climate was perfect for us—comfortable temperatures, fresh ocean breezes, and just enough tropical rain to keep everything incredibly green and beautiful. The entire staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. Every interaction made us feel like valued guests, and their hospitality added so much to our experience. We completely fell in love with Hanalei and the North Shore. The slower pace of life, stunning scenery, amazing food, and friendly people made it incredibly difficult to leave. It was exactly the kind of relaxing vacation we had hoped for. Hanalei Colony Resort provided the perfect escape from busy everyday life. Whether we were enjoying the views from our lanai, exploring the area, or simply unwinding, every moment felt peaceful and rejuvenating. We are already planning our return trip next year. "Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have stayed at Hale Pua Kai now four times in the past 7 years. It is the sweetest north shore hideaway you can imagine. The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking/eating tools. The house is cool inside even when it's hot outside. It has an "old Hawai'i" vibe that is just so pleasant. You have easy access to Kepuhi (10 minute walk) and Tunnels (15 minutes walk), both excellent snorkeling beaches. The one thing that was disappointing is the bed, which is a bit soft and sagging. My husband was ok with it but I was less comfortable. However, it is not a deterrent! Hale Pua Kai is our home away from home, and we will be going there every year for as long as we can! Thank you, KVR, for being such excellent hosts."

"Beautiful home and well-stocked kitchen! Our family of six enjoyed staying here for a week, especially the more relaxed feel of the north shore. Communication and responsiveness before and during our stay was top notch. The beach right out back is not swimmable, but we found places to swim / snorkel within walking distance. It was still beautiful to walk on and spot marine life. I booked a few tours for our family that were based out of Lihue and I wish I would have done better research to know we'd be doing that 1hr drive so frequently. For instance, after already booked I learned there was a closer place to start helicopter tours. Not a problem with the property, just sharing so others are aware going in."

"Fabulous house in a fabulous location. Right on a small beach- we enjoyed not leaving our house! Roomy, comfortable and great views. Good bedroom air conditioners bc it does get hot in the afternoon. We enjoyed cooking for our group of 9 and sitting at the large dining table. Would love to come back."
