The Way Back - Groovy 1970s Time Capsule – Retro Vibes, Modern Comfort!
If you're looking for a glamorous place to stay, this isn't for you, but if you're looking for retro and comfortable, we've got you covered.
The "Way Back" is a 1976 Holly Park mobile home that has been immaculately maintained over the years, left original in almost every way. What was once cringy 70s decor is now cool again, and the space will truly transport you. This two-bedroom home has a king-sized memory foam bed in the master, a twin in the spare room, and a second twin mattress under the bed for easy set-up. You'll find modern comforts, like wifi, a smart tv, and a small Bluetooth speaker, but also the charm of a vintage record player and a small selection of records.
Our property is located in a small neighborhood of mostly seasonal residents, just off the banks of the Muskegon River and right around the corner from access to the Dragon Trail. While the neighborhood restricts river access to residents only, guests may access the river via a day pass (or weekend/seasonal pass) at Big Bend Campground (about a 3-minute drive to the park entrance). Grab your mountain bike or your hiking shoes and spend the day exploring the Dragon Trail, or use the boat launch at Big Bend Campground to launch a kayak or motor boat (contact campground directly for dock options if you want to leave your boat in the water during your stay).
Enjoy a morning coffee or evening beverage under the covered patio, where you'll also find a gas grill for your use.
The home and yard are yours to use, explicitly, during your stay. We offer parking for up to 2 vehicles and potentially a boat (up to 30', but please confirm with us before booking) in the driveway, which is shared with our pole barn on the adjacent lot. Please note that while we may occasionally access the barn during your stay, it will not impact your use of the home, driveway, nor the yard space attached to the home.
The Way Back is located within a seasonally busy neighborhood, where you'll find increased activity on holiday weekends, and during special neighborhood events. We require our guests to maintain a level of respect for our neighbors and ask that should you be approached by a neighbor who may inquire who you are (just because they're a friendly group and generally make a point to say hello to everyone), please do not take offense or get on the defensive. This is a community of people who have been vacationing or summering here their whole lives, and they take pride in knowing their neighbors.
The neighborhood is a lively group, with frequent social gatherings, campfires, and golf carts traveling the road. We ask that you travel carefully and always be on the lookout for kids playing, riding bikes, and people carting from point A to point B.
Please note that there is no public access to the Muskegon River from our home or neighborhood. It's tempting, we know, but please do not walk around or on the docks at the end of the road, it's private property of the neighborhood association.
If you're coming for the river, you can access it through the neighboring campground (Big Bend) or one of many other county parks, marinas & campgrounds in the area. We are happy to assist with suggestions for water access, just ask!
