The Shibu Hotel was a great place to stay. The staff are extremely kind and hospitable, and the meals were delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Highly recommend!
One of the highlights of my trip. This is a very special place where the staff could not have been more warm and helpful. We booked the half board for 2 nights and the food was very traditional, high level Japanese cuisine which didn’t completely suit our teenagers (just something to be aware of) but the service was superb and the facilities (hot baths and room) amazing.
It is an older property however very well managed and clean. The staff is amazing very eager to accommodate all guests. We purchased half board option and the food was delicious, truly authentic experience.

This place was amazing! Extremely authentic feeling and the staff were extremely helpful. The food was also a great experience.
Shibu hotel and the entire staff was welcoming, helpful, and perfect in every way. Hands down one of the best hotels and experiences I’ve ever had!! They are amazing and everyone should stay there - the town is stunning, the relaxation is peak, and the food and rooms are above and beyond!!
Very helpful staff. Transportation provided to and from monkey park and closest train station. Get the full package and dinner and breakfast. It is well worth it and the experience is unforgettable. Thank you so much
I truly enjoyed my stay at this Ryokan. The omotenashi (Japanese hospitality) was outstanding from the arrangement of the pick-up at the train station, to the staff having my bags picked upon arrivals and take them to my room while I checked in, to the quality of the traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast included, and let’s not forget about the onsens! They offer an outdoor and and indoor private onsen that you can book in advance for half hour, a huge public outdoor/indoor onsen that you can use anytime from 3pm to 9am, as well as access to all 9 public onsens in the town which you need a key to access. It was fun to do a pilgrimage through all wearing the yukata and wood sandals (be aware that water is usually extremely hot in these!). I also appreciated to know that you are allowed to all this onsens if you have tattoos. The hotel also offers drop-off/pick-up shuttle to the snow monkey park, which I did after checking out and they brought my bags when picking me up to take me to the train station. All in all, a marvelous experience that I will cherish for life.
The building is beautiful and clean. The staff were very sweet and incredibly helpful. We had a delicious dinner and breakfast during our stay. It's also in a beautiful location where you can listen to the river while falling asleep. If you are planning on seeing the snow monkeys, this place is a must.
From the arrival to departure. The stay was incredible. Room was really big and traditional. Food was an experience itself both dinner and breakfast were incredible. Highlights were the private outdoor onsen. The staff was lovely and very helpful. The town is really cute at night. Would totally recommend and go back.
The thoughtful staff, excellent kaiseiki dinner made our stay a fabulous one. The property is well kept & we experienced warm, Japanese hospitality - from lunch recommendations, snowball toys, to free flow drinks at the lobby and room. We loved Shibu Onsen town & Shibu hotel made it all the more special. The Onsen was great especially during winter.
I absolutely loved Shibu Hotel! The staff went out of their way to help me at every opportunity, the food was incredible, and the location made exploring Shibu Onsen so easy. I can't recommend it enough!
Staff: Before I arrived, they actually contacted ME about a pickup outside their posted pickup hours. I hadn't even asked because I assumed it wasn't an option! They checked the weather for me, and someone even ran after me with an umbrella when it started raining. I was traveling alone, and everyone was so warm and welcoming. They recognized me, seemed happy to see me, and I never had trouble communicating.
Room: Beautiful traditional Japanese room with tatami and futons. Spacious, quiet, very clean, and I got to watch the fog roll in over the hills from my window!
Baths/location: They gave me a yukata and a key with a little map for the nine public baths, and I bought a towel at the desk. But honestly? I liked the hotel's own bath even more. So refreshing! The hotel is also easy to spot, even after wandering the winding streets for ages.
Food: Dinner was a beautiful multicourse meal. The fresh fish was wonderful, the beef nabe was incredible, and breakfast was full of little dishes with traditional Japanese flavors. I couldn't get over the tsukemono!
I really loved this place. More than anything, it was how kind everyone was. They didn't just help when I asked—they noticed things and helped before I could even think to ask.
I loved my stay here! The food was amazing. The onsite Onsen (for hotel guests) was wonderful. The staff were kind and patient with my lack of Japanese language. I loved the snow monkeys at Jigokudani. The town has several small (delicious) bakeries and ramen lunch places. The whole visit was a delight.
Excellent service and delicious food. The hotel is clearly well run and cared for. The onsen baths in the hotel were the perfect temperature and the location ideal.
The spa was not big but was clean and comfortable. All the staffs were so polite and gave us VIP treatment. The owner was very accommodating with our plans. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are in Shibu Onsen village.
The Ryokan exceeded all our expectations. The food was absolutely outstanding -beautifully presented and truly memorable. The service was impeccable, attentive, kind and genuinely welcoming. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and cared for throughout our stay. Having a private onsen that we could reserve was the perfect touch. It was peaceful and relaxing. We truly enjoyed the authentic Ryokan experience.
Staff made us very welcome and the shuttle service was excellent. The dining at the hotel was a very special experience (our first). An excellent choice.
Incredible experience. Hotel was clean and comfortable, the staff is very helpful and nice, and I had some of my favorite meals in all of Japan. Would highly recommend this place.
