"It's a Hostel, so as you'd expect basic "cheap as chips" accommodation. It is clean, convenient & no riff-raff. More than adequate for our purposes. Be advised though that if you are returning after a day/night out, the hill up to the hostel is a killer! Would recommend & will return."

Quaint Meltham is calling! Discover its food, countryside, history, and more.

Unofficial path down Royd Edge, Meltham No zig-zags, it just goes straight down the hillside. An average 20% grade, 30m in 150m, but some short sections are much steeper. It must be popular for a metre-wide strip of bracken to be worn away. It is a short cut across the route of the public path via Sun Royd and Royd, which I found rather wet in places, with two tricky stream crossings. Royd is a ruined farm, to the right of centre in the view. The public path follows the wall leftwards from Royd, and one of the wet patches can be seen – marked by a broad band of rushes.
