Come to relaxing Edith Weston and enjoy its food, lake views, and countryside.

Originally built as St Matthew's church in 1826 with a tower by Thomas Cundy, a nave and apse was added in 1911. In 1970 with the formation of Rutland Water the valley had to be cleared, so the church was deconsecrated and scheduled for demolition. A trust was organised with the aim of rescuing the building, and various proposals were considered.
It was decided that the lower level of the church should be filled in to create a new floor. A causeway was built connecting it to the shore and an embankment was constructed around the building with a layer of boulders as a defensive breakwater to prevent erosion. It is now used as a wedding venue and museum. Pic by Jenny
