  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Lovely town, would stay at Asiris again!

Short walk to central Brugge, very comfy bed, good water pressure in the shower. Helpful staff. I also enjoyed the morning view of Brugge from my (top floor) room. I chose not to pay for breakfast, so can't comment on that. Would stay here again!

Hôtel Asiris est un charmant petit hôtel situé à 10 minutes de marche du centre et des attraits touristiques de Bruges. Petite surprise en arrivant il y a personne à l’accueil et la porte est barrée. C’est que l’hôtel vient de fusionner avec l’hôtel Jacob qui est juste de l’autre côté de la rue. Comme tout cela était très récent, le personnel n’était peut être pas tout à fait ajusté à la situation ( retard pour avoir la chambre, le monsieur à l’accueil semblait un peu dépassé par les événements, à égaré un document pour la taxe de la ville, confusion pour les déjeuners ) sinon pour le reste tout était parfait et le petit déjeuner était excellent. Je recommande cet hôtel.

Es un hotel muy bonito, descansas muy bien, no hay ruido y el hotel tiene decoraciones muy padres que hace agradable la estadía. Lastima que no tiene elevadores ya que si llevas una maleta muy pesada es muy dificil subir a los cuartos.

Pleasant stay

Nice small traditional B&B run by a friendly family, about 10 minutes walk from Markt square and 5 mins to the nearest bus stop or small supermarket. Otherwise, nice quiet residential area. Old building, so no lift or air con, but with spacious & refurbished rooms & bathrooms. We had a large double room at the front of the B&B. It was nice & quiet. The mattress for me was a little hard, so would've preferred a softer one! Continental breakfast was tasty with hams, cheeses, & eggs cooked to order on some days.

Nice small hotel with no lift

This hotel is a nice small hotel, but unfortunately we were on the 3rd floor (6 flights up) for 4 nights. Although we are fit, this was very difficult and inconvenient for us (a couple in their late 60's). As well, we had some heavy bags because we are on a long trip, and the small double rooms are not suitable for a couple in our circumstances. The breakfast was very good, and it is an easy walk into the town centre which is about 15 minutes walk away. The small attic-style room had no coffee/tea or fridge in the room, so the long trip down and up the stairs was necessary if we wanted anything. There didn't seem to be any shops or restaurants very close by. One other issue (probably not in the control of the owner) was that there was periodically a sewerage stench in the room, and so we spent the whole four days with the windows open. I might add that this was one of the most expensive rooms on our 10 week trip, so we expected better.

Good location and nice guy in the reception. The rooms are carpeted which isn't so good if you have problem with allergy. The breakfast room is well decorated but I don't think it's worth paying extra for the breakfast. The coffe is from a machine that doesn't taste much and there is no fresh fruits. Just bread, cheese, youghurt, boiled eggs and spreads..
