Lovely place to stay. Unfortunately due to the age of the building and plumbing, it was a shared toilet and separate shower room. Hosts were lovely people.

I arrived pretty late and Gem greeted me with kindness and warmth. She showed me where everything was. Room was clean and tidy, the shared bathroom was clean. Overall stay was good. Free parking small walk away and not far to drive into town or to the beach. Would stay again

We found this a welcoming and restful place. The bed was comfy and the communal shower was the best. The kitchen was easy to use and breakfast laid out if we wanted it. We really enjoyed our stay.

Spacious room and a comfortable bed. Just be aware its a shared bathroom and toilet, and a shared kitchen area with a continental breakfast available. The kitchen could have done with a decent clean. We dined in at this pub and the food was reasonable.

It's a beautiful old place, if you are expecting luxury then it's not going to float your boat. It's very relaxed and the bar is well stocked. Simon and his staff are great and I was made to feel very welcome, booking taxis etc was all done with a genuine smile not a corporate one. Rooms are basic but spotlessly clean and a really comfortable bed. Let's face it, the place is nearly 400 years old and it oozes character. I'd happily stay again

Disliked: Staff & service
I liked it was a 13th century property because it has a lot of history. Staff were not visible and liquid soap was not replaced for three days in shared toilet. The young bar tender was pleasant and the kitchen was do it yourself catering. So no breakfast served. Cereals, milk and other loose foods were available though this aspect was not clearly communicated from the start. One bathroom had a power shower which was handy, due to the lack of rain I didn't want to use the baths.

The pros: really good value for money and a very affordable single room - by far the lowest price when I was booking, highly accessible location near the connection of the two main A roads in the area, characterful ancient building with a pub and beer garden on ground floor stocking local ales, quaint village setting and public square to the front, it's not actually on the main road itself so outside noise wasn't too bad with the window open. The downsides: the reception or check-in is not obvious or clearly signposted (it's inside the bar serving area on the right as you enter from the front), there appears to be on bathroom shared by all guests (my room had a sink), the free breakfast is DIY but eggs, bread, cereals and bananas were provided, the walls are thin and or not insulated so you can hear people talking in the adjoining rooms.

4/10 Poor

This property has so much potential being a beautiful, old and characterful inn. I arrived early but the owner was very accommodating, allowing me to check in. My room (a single room) was clean apart from spiders webs and spiders near the ceiling which I removed as I wouldn't have been able to sleep. The room was very basic which is fine, but it would benefit from a picture or two to brighten it up. Night-time was the main issue. The mattress could do with replacing as it dips in the middle of the bed, but it was just about ok. The walls were sadly so thin that I could hear the guest in the neighbouring room snoring all night and also hear the person he was talking to on the other end of the phone in the morning. I was also kept awake by the plumbing. Every time someone else used their sink or other facilities, water would gurgle up through the pipes and into the sink in my room. I did not sleep well. The shared bathroom was also not particularly clean, making it unpleasant to use. Breakfast was help yourself from an selection of cereal in tuppaware containers, toast and jams and fresh fruit. Most cereals were almost empty so possibly stale, I wouldn't touch the jams as so would other guests; those I met were not my type of people, so I went for the fruit. Thank goodness for that. On leaving, the landlord was nowhere to be found and so I left the key in the door. So whilst cheap, I would not return unless the property was upgraded quite significantly. Sorry.
