Alternatively, you can jump on the passenger ferry and in just under 5 minutes find yourself in Hengistbury Head - another nature reserve home to protected bird species and popular with bird watchers. This Iron Age peninsula can be explored on foot or by the overland train in peak season and makes for a lovely day out with family and friends. Just a stone's throw away from the property is a vast but secluded beach - a hidden gem in an otherwise very busy coastal area.
