OMG The Sunsets!
We came to this rental for a “technology detox,” spending five days screen-free to reset ourselves and our teenage son and reconnect. This place was perfect! Secluded except for the owners next door (Joe and Marylou are lovely, and visited us a few times to ensure our stay was comfortable), the cabin is the perfect mountain getaway. We were visited by elk, turkeys, chipmunks, and several varieties of birds, so bring your camera and enjoy the feeling of being amongst nature. The living space is modern, very clean, and well-appointed. We cooked several meals in the kitchen and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable, as was the pull-out couch, and we had more than enough linens and towels. The weather was perfect in July. Cool and breezy when the basin valley was close to 100F. Cloudcroft is a cool little village with neat shops and cafes, plenty to do for an afternoon of shopping and lounging. And then there’s the sunsets - Just Wow! The patio and balcony face west overlooking the Alamogordo valley, and the nightly sunsets put on a spectacular show for us. Note: The road to the cabin is no joke. We made it up easily in our Lincoln Navigator, but 4 wheel drive is a necessity. With mud or snow, I imagine that drive is sketchy as heck. Overall, 10/10 would recommend for a sleepy getaway vacation “away from the rat race.”
