"Check-in was excellent. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive from the moment we arrived, making us feel at home straight away. The process was smooth and efficient, and it was a lovely surprise that they had noted we were celebrating a birthday and acknowledged it on arrival. That thoughtful touch made our stay feel even more special. Service throughout our stay was consistently excellent and much appreciated. The hotel could improve by making the room service menu available within the online guest guidebook instead of directing guests to contact reception. It is also worth noting that the advertised cigar and fine spirits den is not currently available, which may be disappointing for guests expecting this facility."

"We had a pleasant stay. The grounds was beautiful. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a short visit. We stayed in the west wing section with a view to the garden. The rooms are not large in size with a double bed. It's a simple, no-frills place with basic amenities, but it delivered exactly what we expected. The breakfast was good, with a nice selection to start the day, with a buffet style continental breakfast and a cooked meal also available on demand. The overall experience was great value for money for a unique experience. One thing worth noting for international travellers is that air conditioning isn't a standard amenity in many UK hotels, so it's always worth checking before you book if that's important to you. A fan would have been appreciated during the warmer weather, which may have been available on request. We didn't bother. Also, don't assume there will be a bar fridge in the room, as refrigerators are not commonly provided either. Overall, if you're looking for a clean, comfortable, and affordable place to stay without the extras, this is a solid choice."

"Lovely old hotel in centre of Thirsk, be prepared for noisy floorboards. Room was pleasant at side of hotel, so no view. The bathroom was up two steps, difficult at night, if partner is asleep and you do not want to put on a light. One negative, placed the 'we're going green, skip the clean' sign on the door, as we left in the morning. When we came back, the bed had been tidied, coffee and biscuits had been refreshed, very nice, but not what we had expected, as we had left all our stuff out in the room. We would stay here again, family in the area, but next time I will inform the desk we do not need housekeeping."

"Staff in all areas..from Reception, Restaurant, Bar & Housekeeping.. were all welcoming, friendly and more than helpful; particularly important as a lone visitor. Room was immaculate, as were all public areas. Had a lovely stay and I will be back."
