Very nice resort. Clean and big rooms. Breakfast and dinner buffet with a lot variety of food. During our stay was my wife birthday and the management of the resort surprise us with a cake and a bottle of sparkling wine. The resort is in good central location. Thank you so much Vidamar Resort for making us felling at home.

This was our third visit to this hotel, but the first for 13 years. As ever the staff and food offerings were excellent, but there were signs of ageing of the property and it needs some updating in some areas. But overall an excellent holiday in a good location but you do need to allow time and patience if using the local buses into Funchel.

Lovely 2 night half board stay here. Very clean, staff helpful, 3 pools especially nice, with steps down to safe sea swimming. Food, gym & spa all very good, beautiful sea view from balcony. Only negative was the pillows on bed were hard .

Clean, modern, excellent buffet, very good staff. Well located for bus tours and other facilities. Near tourist information office. Good dining options. Hotel facilities are first class. Downside was that we had to buy our own decaf teabags from the local supermarket as they don’t do decaf tea but do decaf coffee.

Beautiful hotel, huge room with sitting room area and stunning sea view. Dine around each evening with a choice of restaurants is great. Pool areas and free fitness classes as well as happy hour cocktails. Convenient for walking in to Funchal and lots of facilities around the hotel and bus stops if you don’t want to walk. Can’t wait to return again. Staff are all so helpful and professional ensuring that you have a great stay.

Gorgeous ocean front setting with couple infinite pools. Great for family vacations. The hotel offers free breakfasts and dinner in a buffet styled which is very nice. They also have a few restaurants for dinner options. Gym is also very nice too. If I have to suggest the hotel can be a bit better - I had wished the bed sheet (additional protective layer) can be a soft typed rather than a rough plastic film Tyler which makes every turn noisy and annoying so eventually we had to pull off this layer for a better sleep quality)

If none of the service staff nor the hotel managers greet you when passing by, something with the culture in this place seems wrong. Additionally, we were quite shocked that the hotel changed their service descriptions after we booked - we decided to book this place because a free airport transfer was offered in the description and the title "Free dinner, dinearound" sounded great to us. Yet, transfer was removed and instead a high airport charge added in the description afterwards. Plus, the dinearound is misleading as well, since only the buffet was included but all other hotel restaurants offered only a 15 eur discount on a much higher menu price. Everything else was very fine. However, these minor negative experiences would lead us to not recommend this place anymore.

Excellent hotel, excellent staff

We stayed with Vidamar for our honeymoon, 7 nights. It was the best decision ever. Despite it being holiday season and lots of guests, the hotel had plenty of staff around who were all smiles and provided a great service. We were on 10th floor, with a sea view and balcony, and could not have been more comfortable in any way. We especially appreciated the small touches (fizz, red wine and trouffles on arrival). From our stay back in 2019, we remembered how the afternoon room service would leave small chocolates every day, and to our excitement, they still offer this lovely gesture. Breakfast and evening buffet was fabulous. Greeted by friendly and helpful staff, there was plenty of choice - many healthy and gluten free options - and everything was delicious. We were so impressed with how the hotel delivered such a seamless service, with no queues or shortages (new dishes were constantly brought out), despite all guests. The hotel boasts plenty of space and resource, so it also never felt crammed. We had 3 day trips planned during our stay, but could have easily stayed at the resort and been very happy there for the week (e.g. lots of fitness classes, gym, pool tables, spa, etc). A nice stroll away from Funchal town centre. We loved being able to swap our dinner vouchers for lunch at the pool restaurant, especially since the sushi restaurant is no more. (We hope this will come back!). Overall, we loved our stay and can't wait to come back. Obrigado!

Does not live up to its five star rating

Thoroughly disappointed. The hotel for a five star lacked soul. There were no comfortable welcoming lounges for you to relax in and staff failed to interact with residents. There was a lack of information as to what was going on in the hotel and the surrounding area. My wife got up one morning to go to the gym when it opened at 7.00 am only to find after waiting half an hour outside in the dark that it didn’t open until 10.00 am that day as it was a public holiday. There were no notices to inform you of this. The beds were really hard and uncomfortable. Although breakfast was quite good. The evening buffet meal was really awful. The food lacked taste, was just about warm and a lot of the meats were tough. The desserts although looked nice were rubbery and tasteless. We had lunch in the poolside restaurant and I have to say, the food here was really very good, staff interacted and were friendly. We also ate at the Casa das Espetadas which again we thought was very good. The one positive I can say is that whatever you asked for at reception, it was delivered to your room promptly. Would I stay here again. - probably not.

Sehr abgewohnt, die Kinderzimmertüre und die Badezimmertüre gingen nicht zu. Teilweise waren nach Regen Handtücher im ganzen Haus aufgelegt da das Wasser reingeronnen ist. Der tv ging 2 Tage nicht und einer der Aufzüge streikte. Punkten kann das Hotel mit dem Personal, dass sehr freundlich war. Im Großen und Ganzen war es auch sauber aber nicht perfekt. ( zu wenig Personal??) für ein 5 Sterne Hotel, etwas besseres erwartet.

Mitarbeiter, gerade an der Rezeption herausragend freundlich und hilfsbereit. Leider sinddie Zimmer bereits stark in die Jahre gekommen. Wir konnten zum Glück ein upgrade zu einem angemessenen Preis für die renovierten Zimmer bekommen. Hier hatte sich eine Mitarbeiterin ganz besonders toll engagiert, um es möglich zu machen. Das Frühstück ist groß und es gibt einiges an Auswahl. Leider ist es sehr laut, auf der Terrasse ist es besser. der Kaffee aus dem automaten ist furchtbar. Lage ist top, da man fast alles zu Fuß erreichen kann.

The property was clean, convenient location walkable to funchal main areas, view from room was 6* if you want an ocean view you wont beat it. Bed was comfortable and housekeeping were great. Cons: it is very plain and sterile. There is not personality or atmosphere. It does not feel like 5*Luxury, other than view I would rate it more of a 2.5 star. The food was okay, buffet didnt really have much change so it became very repetitive after a while and we ended up spending money to eat out. The grill restaurant was awesome.

Promises but doesn't deliver.

A fabulous location with seafront rooms , pros are the views, standard of rooms (large and well appointed ) , location's convenience, helpful staff but as many have said out-weighted by the cons. Huge sprawling hotel more like a conference centre with a sterile atmosphere , very little entertainment in the evening, and at £1700 for a week I would have expected free parking and half board / all inclusive which we didnt get. Food was very average, and dining staff willing but disorganised we tried the buffet and Italian restaurant and concluded better value was to be had out in the town. Would not return, poor value.

Resort grande, com lounges bem decorados e amplos, piscinas enormes e muitas cadeiras para tomar sol. O spa foi uma grata surpresa para nós. Gostamos bastante da piscina de água salgada aquecida e das saunas.Os quatro restaurantes disponíveis são muito bons. É importante fazer reserva com antecedência nos restaurantes do lado de fora do resort, o Mamma Mia (maravilhoso) e o de espetadas. Os funcionários são cordiais e educados. As roupas de cama e as toalhas são de boa qualidade. Como pontos a melhorar, eu destacaria o chuveiro do banheiro, que tinha pouca pressão, e os móveis do quarto que estão um tanto quanto utltrapassados. Aliás, a impressão não é das melhores assim que se abre a porta do quarto. Com o passar dos dias, acostumamos com a mobília antiga, mesmo porque a vista para o oceano é lindíssima.

J’ai séjourné une dizaine de jours dans cet hotel en février/mars 2025 pendant la période du carnaval à Madère. J’ai fait le check-in vers 1h du matin, j’avais prévenu de mon arrivée tardive, mais à priori il n’y a pas de problème pour les check-in tardifs. L’hotel se compose de deux tours communicantes, j’avais une chambre double supérieure dans la tour 1 au 9e étage (sur 10), vue splendide sur l’Atlantique! La chambre est spacieuse (bureau, canapé, balcon avec table et chaises). Petit frigo dans la chambre et bouilloire. Pour la TV, plusieurs chaines françaises (M6, Arte, France24) parmi une multitude de chaines dans toutes les langues. Contrairement à ce que peut être indiqué sur le descriptif de l’hotel, le parking ne coute pas 27€ par jour ou 1€ de l’heure, il est gratuit! Lors de mon séjour, il n’y avait qu’un seul restaurant ouvert pour le petit-déjeuner et le diner, il est au niveau 2. Je ne sais pas si d’autres restaurants sont disponibles, notamment le restaurant japonais, comme ça semble être indiqué sur le site de l’hotel ou sur d’autres avis (fonction des périodes?) Que ce soit pour le petit-déjeuner ou le diner, on est en formule buffet, elles sont vraiment très complètes, il y en a pour tous les gouts. A noter que pour le diner, la boisson n’est pas comprise; j’ai trouvé ça curieux d’autant plus qu’il n’y a pas (ou j’ai mal regardé) d’eau en libre service. Je n’ai pas testé les autres services de l'hotel (piscines, spa, ...).
