About this property
Perfect Rural Retreat for two near Hay on Wye
The Old Bake House is a beautifully appointed, detached cottage tucked away at the foot of the Black Hill on the edge of the Black Mountains and the Welsh border. Full of original character features such as flagstone floors and original oak beams, the cottage - all on one level - is thoughtfully furnished and decorated to provide a comfortable, cosy stay in this stunning part of rural Herefordshire. The living area is spacious and includes a dining table and chairs and 32 inch Smart TV. Double doors lead to a fantastic sun room with views across the gardens, two easy chairs and a further set of dining furniture for sunny, summer dining. The kitchen is fully equipped with crockery, glassware, cookware, cafetiere, kettle, toaster etc, and the adjoining utility room houses a dishwasher, undercounter freezer, microwave oven, washing machine, iron and ironing board. The bedroom is spacious with 2 large windows which overlook the garden. It is carpeted throughout and furnished with a Super King size bed (which can also be configured as 2 single beds on request), a wardrobe, chest of drawers, 2 bedside cabinets and a further shelving unit. The shower room is a generous space with WC, modern glass sink bowl and large shower enclosure. Whether you are in search of a relaxing, restorative retreat or a base from which to explore the region's numerous walks, quaint villages and outdoor activities, The Old Bake House and its beautiful garden overlooking the river will provide the perfect, tranquil setting.
Please noted that the entrance between the living area and sun room is lower than standard height due to the property's age. There is a step up of roughly 6 inches into the shower enclosure. There is a walk of approximately 25 metres' distance from the car parking spot across a lawn to the front door of the cottage.

It was a lovely character cottage with all the facilities you could ask for. It has a wonderfully private large garden with a stream at the rear. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and really helpful with any queries we had about the area. We will definitely revisit in the future.
This accomodation is amazing. It had everything you could want. The attention to detail was so we'll thought out, including a welcome food pack, lights were on, for our arrival and a personal visit by very friendly hosts to ensure all was well. Perfect.
ensure everything was well.
A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. We decided to stay out of Hay and this was ideal for us. You have to be prepared for a challenging drive into Hay on very windy single track lanes but it was worth it. Cottage is well equipped and extremely comfortable, which we appreciated and the garden is beautiful. Would highly recommend it. Hosts are onsite and available but not at all intrusive. We would go back - had a great week
Enjoyed being in cottage even with rain coming down. Lovely area with good pubs and Hay close by. Even cooked in one night it was so nice. No complaints except the weather.
Booking this property was very easy & all communication with the hosts was clear & prompt. We had our one year old with us & were provided with a travel cot, high chair & stair gate on kitchen area which was all a great help.
The property is spacious & the super king-size bed very nice. The garden is large & a great space to sit out on a fine day. We found the living area a little dark but that is just the nature of the old building & certainly not a criticism.
We knew the area to be remote so be prepared for a half hour drive to get to any main towns. There are pubs and village shops much nearer.
A welcome basket on arrival was a treat & provided a couple of essentials & a couple of luxuries.
All in all we enjoyed our stay & would go again.
It was the best house for holidays we ever had. There was no more wish open in the house that could be netter. Nice private garden, as lovely as our on. The landlord was always helpfull.
Lovely cosy cottage with beautiful garden. Excellent helpful hosts. Clean and well equipped. We had a fantastic stay. Would thoroughly recommend this property.

Idyllic cottage nestled in the valley by a stream. Perfect for the hills (you can walk to Cat's Back direct from the house) and also for Hay-on-Wye and books. Single-track roads but they are very quiet. Would definitely go back.
It is a one bedroom stone cottage that was was originally a bakehouse. The facilities are completely up to date with an excellent shower room and central heating. It is in a beautiful spot with lovely views from the sunny conservatory. A 5-star stay.
Beautiful cottage, more spacious than expected, in an amazing location with a lovely garden and sun room to watch the birds after a hike up the mountains. Really enjoyed our bank holiday stay, thank you.
