Donna Lidia is one of the largest and most attractive homes available in Giglio Castello. It is a cool, bright, spacious and fully renovated house on the upper two floors, located in a quiet pedestrian street inside this charming medieval village. On the first floor is a double bedroom, lounge with armchairs, TV and sofa bed, a dining area for 8, a large fitted kitchen and bathroom with shower. The second floor has a double/twin bedroom, sitting room with coffee table, comfortable chairs and sofa bed and a bathroom with shower and bidet, accessible from both the bedroom and the sitting room. The property has been restored with great care to conserve its original character and to provide a comfortable holiday home for those who appreciate the special atmosphere of Giglio Castello. Free parking, shops, bars, pizzerie and restaurants are all within a few minutes' walk and the Castello itself provides fascinating, friendly surroundings for children to play safely. At the end (24th-26th) of September Giglio Castello holds a food and wine festival which draws families from all over the world for three evenings of friendly celebration and entertainment.

Very sweet original stone building inside of Castello Giglio. This clearly is the owner’s home, not a put-together-to-do-business type of place. Indoors was spotlessly clean. Tony and Ombretta’s hospitality was one of the bests that I have come across in years of traveling. Highly recommend!

Bellissimo!

Io con la mia famiglia (genitori con tre figli) abbiamo soggiornato una settimana in questa accogliente casetta. Piacevole vivere esperienza in un piccolo borgo antico dove sembra essersi fermato il tempo. La casa è pulitissima, silenziosa, spaziosa e accessoriata di tutto. Non è presente aria condizionata ma anche nelle giornate afose di agosto sempre fresca. La sera ci coprivamo con lenzuolino. Il borgo si trova al centro del Giglio, in una posizione strategica per raggiungere entrambi i versanti dell’isola (10 minuti circa). Il parcheggio può essere un po’ difficoltoso. Siamo stati accolti in casa con un cesto di benvenuto, latte nel frigo e vari beni di prima necessità. Ombretta e Tony sono delle persone di rara gentilezza, ci hanno fatto sentire a casa! Consiglio a tutti di vivere l’esperienza!

Ombretta and John are perfect hosts, they are so warm and helpful. Staying in Castello is an experience! Their apartment is well equipped and spacious for a family of five and everything was very clean. We highly recommend visiting Giglio, Castello, Ombretta and John. Thank you for lovely days!

Una vacanza fantastica

L'appartamento è stato perfetto per noi. Abbiamo apprezzato la quiete del vecchio borgo. La casa è attrezzato benissimo. Nella cucina non mancava nulla, anzi una base di alimenti era disponibile. Curata bene nei particolari anche la scala per l'ingresso con le piante in fiore. Per fare il trekking la posizione dell'appartamento era ideale. Col bus o direttamente a piedi abbiamo raggiunto facilmente i punti di partenza. Posticini simpatici per mangiare si trovano nelle vicinanze. In tutto una vacanza bellissima.

Una vacanza indimenticabile che consiglierei a tutti. L'isola del Giglio è meravigliosa e altrettanto la nostra permanenza al Castello. Con Ombretta e Tony ci siamo sentiti sin da subito come in famiglia. Persone straordinarie, disponibili e di una accoglienza davvero rara. Beautiful apartment at the top of Giglio Castello

Tony and Ombretta’s apartment was the perfect place to stay and enjoy the best of this beautiful island. Everything in the apartment was spotless and well maintained, and the place has a great layout as well, with a huge lounge and very large bedrooms. All the rooms are beautifully decorated and the kitchen is fully stocked with all the equipment you might need to make family dinners. There were only 4 of us staying there so we were very comfortable, and it's apparently possible to transform the landing on the second floor to an extra bedroom as well. The apartment itself is situated inside Giglio Castello, the beautiful old own at the top of the island. It’s a great place to stay if you prefer cooler evenings and nights after a day on the beach, as the areas near the sea stay pretty warm even when the sun has gone down. The Castello has a maze of picturesque streets, local food and clothes stores, and plenty of delicious restaurants. We loved going to Da Maria's for seafood, and Il Trione di Meino for lovely appetizers and great pizza. It’s easy to park if you have a car (both paid and unpaid can be found around), but the bus is a great option to get to the different small towns and beaches (Porto, Cannelle, Campese, etc). Tony and Ombretta are the most amazing hosts, really kind and caring, and if you need anything they’re always happy to help. We’d most definitely recommend staying here and we know we’ll be back soon!

La vacanza perfetta

L'isola del Giglio è un posto bellissimo e stare al Castello è il modo migliore per godere del suo fascino, con la possibilità di raggiungere in modo agevole e veloce le spiagge. La casa di Ombretta e Tony, che si trova in uno degli angoli più suggestivi del Castello, è stata una vera sorpresa perché è molto più grande e confortevole della tipica casa che uno si aspetta di trovare quando va in vacanza. La casa è arredata con molto buon gusto ed è molto fresca anche nelle giornate più calde. I padroni di casa sono stati perfetti nel farci trovare tutto quello che si può desiderare, anche qualora uno decida di mangiare in casa, cosa che, in verità, noi facevamo solo per la prima colazione. La casa si sviluppa su due piani: al piano principale c'è la cucina, ben attrezzata, con un ampio soggiorno e una camera matrimoniale con un bagno annesso; al piano di sopra c'è un'altra camera con il proprio bagno e un soggiorno con un comodo divano letto utilizzabile anche per due persone. È sicuramente una casa molto consigliabile, ma soprattutto spero di avere presto la possibilità di tornarci io stesso!

Also wir waren eine Woche auf der Insel Giglio und haben bei Ombretta & Toni in deren Ferienwohnung gewohnt - es war wunderbar - mittendrin im Insel Leben - die Wohnung von Ombretta & Toni ist sehr liebevoll eingerichtet - alles was man jemals benötigen könnte gibt es in der Küche aber auch sonst ist alles vorhanden - wir waren zwei Erwachsene und ein Kind also genügend Platz da es zwei Schlafzimmer gibt - die Whg ist ideal für eine vierköpfige Familie od zwei Paare - beide Schlafzimmer haben ein eigens Bad und die Schlafzimmer sind auf versch. Etagen - das Wohnzimmer mit großem Esstisch ist ebenfalls ideal für vier Personen - Wir kommen gerne wieder...;-) Besonders zu erwähnen ist die Gastfreundschaft von Ombretta & Toni die beiden sprechen zudem perfektes Englisch und helfen immer gerne wenn nötig - Toll - Viele Grüße, Hatice & Tim & Andreas.

Ottima settimana al Giglio

Abbiamo soggiornato in questo appartamento con la mia famiglia. Siamo stati perfettamente. Tutti gli ambienti sono estremamente funzionali e dotati di tutto ciò che necessita. La pulizia è minuziosa e l'accoglienza assolutamente cordiale. Voto 10 e lode; non si può chiedere di più - Grazie Ombretta e Tony. Torneremo presto a trovarvi.

An excellent place to stay, fantastic holiday

Donna Lidia is within the walled Castello on top of the hill. It is a very old scenic city with places to eat, a bank, shops and walks down to the beaches. The accommodation is very clean, comfortable, spacious and had everything we needed. The owners were incredibly generous and helpful. We caught the train from Rome, then a bus from Orbetello Scalo to the ferry, then another bus to Castello Giglio. It was very easy to travel to the island from Rome and also around the Island even though we did not have a car. The views are spectacular and the beaches had excellent visibility for snorkeling. Our three teenage children, as well as us, had a fantastic time. August is very hot but there was no need for air conditioning because of the cool breeze in the evening, so we slept well. Going back to Rome was like going to a different planet. Isola de Giglio is an island with a lot of history yet also a lively and relaxing place to spend a holiday. Highly recommended and many thanks to our hosts.

We stayed here for an idyllic 10 days last month. The house is charming, well-equipped ,spacious, spotless and in an ideal location in the heart of the walled town of Castello. The owners couldn't have been more warm and welcoming. We had intended to stay for 7 days but loved it so much we decided not to return to Rome for the last few days of our holiday as planned and stayed on in Giglio instead. Giglio is an amazing island with beautiful scenery, great beaches and a relaxed pace of life. If you want to get away from the stresses of everyday life and recharge your batteries this is the place to go. We'll definitely be back to Giglio and hope to stay at Donna Lidia again.

Dona Lidia

Donna Lidia ist ein sehr großzügiges, helles, freundliches im Inselstil eingerichtetes Appartement. Man erreicht die Wohnung über eine von herrlichen Blumen und Pflanzen flankierten Außentreppe. Auf der ersten Ebene befinden sich die Küche (mit Gasherd, Backofen, Kühl-/Gefrierkombination, Wasserkocher und Mikrowelle; die unbezahlbare Waschmaschiene nicht zu vergessen), ein Duschbad, ein Schlafzimmer mit Doppelbett und das geräumige Wohn-/Esszimmer (hier eine Bettcouch). Über eine Treppe erreicht man einen Flur ( von hier aus hat man sogar Meeresblick! ), das zweite Duschbad und ein Schlafzimmer mit zwei Einzelbetten. Das Appartement ist mit viel Liebe gestaltet und sehr geflegt. Für uns als Deutsche war es eine besonder angenhme Überraschung Frotteehandtücher , anstatt der in Italien üblichen glatten Stoffhandtücher vorzufinden. Tony und Ombreta, die Eigentümer, waren immer sehr hilfsbreit und haben sich immer darum gekümmert, das alles im bester Ordnung war. Die Wohnung liegt zentral und gut erreichbar in Castello, die Schlafzimmer sind ruhig gelegen. Etwas unterhalb des Wohnzimmers befindet sich eine Pizzaria (die Pizza ist lecker), was manchmal zu hungertreibenden Duftwolken im Wohnzimmer führte und bei voller Belegung an lauen Abenden auch mal etwas lauter werden kann (dann einfach Fenster schließen!) Wir waren schon das zweite Mal in Dona Lidia und haben auch schon wieder gebucht, für uns ist es "unsere Insel", mit viel Erholung, da kein Sightseeing oder Shopping-Stress, nette kleine Buchten, Schnorchelmöglichkeiten und auch Wandermöglichkeiten.

Beautiful Giglio

Having visited a number of medieval towns over the years, we have long wanted to stay in on of these towns and experience first hand the traditional way of life. Giglio Castello is beautifully positioned with breathtaking views all around the island. Donna Lidia lies right in the heart of medieval Castello. It has been sympathetically restored and blends naturally in with the surrounding architecture. Inside, the rooms are beautifully appointed, and combine local and typical furnishing along with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The owners were very welcoming and went to great lengths to ensure that we had everything we needed to enjoy our holiday. They are both very passionate about Donna Lidia and their way of life on Isola del Giglio, and having shared this way of life for 2 weeks we can easily see why. Not too surprising then, we would emphatically recommend Donna Lidia and certainly intend to go back again. Despite the relative size of the island there is a surprising amount to do. The bus service between the 3 villages is superb, allowing easy access to the many shops and restaurants. But we found the best way to explore the island was by the many ancient paths and tracks which take you through stunning orchards, farmland and natural scenery.

Caratteristico appartamento molto accogliente

Posizione bellissima all' interno del castello, molto caratteristica. Parcheggi a pagamento comodi proprio a due passi dall'appartamento. Appartamento molto spazioso, ideale per 4/6 persone. Noi eravamo due coppie ed è stato l' ideale, ogni coppia aveva il suo bagno e la sua camera. La cucina è molto spaziosa ed è attrezzata di tutto ciò che può servire per cucinare. Il soggiorno principale è molto confortevole e spazioso. I bagni sono in ottime condizioni, puliti e dotati entrambi di doccia. Al piano di sotto c'è anche la lavatrice. La notte si dormiva veramente bene poiché essendo sopra il livello del mare rimane molto più fresco, niente zanzare. La sera ci si può muovere a piedi e visitare il castello. Durante il giorno ci muovevamo con la macchina, ma ci sono numerosi autobus per andare al Campese o al Porto. Il giudizio complessivo dell' appartamento è ottimo, siamo stati tutti molto soddisfatti.
