The property is well kept. We loved seeing all the birds, geckos and plants from our lanai. The beds were great and we were thankful for the two AC units. Kitchen had everything we needed.
We had a wonderful stay and location is great. Would be even better if owner could install some brighter and warmer lights - would make the unit even more homey and welcoming. Overall would definitely stay here again!
Great location. A great choice if you like to eat a couple meals in; the kitchen is very well stocked and the outdoor grills were perfect (a lovely view too!) The grounds were very well maintained and the unit is very comfortable.
Given this is a top floor unit, perhaps not a great choice for anyone who would have trouble with stairs.
Over all the property it self and the location were great. Our unit was lacking - some furniture was broken and unusable and the kitchen was not well stocked at all with supplies. We had to buy some basic supplies to get through.
Beautiful views and spectacular location right on the ocean. The condo was very clean and well kept. The king bed was very comfortable and plenty of room, overall. The only drawback was the noise from the ac unit, it was a little loud. I will note that I’m a light sleeper so if white noise is ok for you this shouldn’t be an issue. Just a 1.5 mile walk to the village with great shops and restaurants! I’d definitely book this unit again!
This property is perfect for those traveling with just a spouse or a couple of friends. It is a peaceful and quiet community that is only 1 mile from downtown Kona and only 10 minutes from a great snorkeling and surfing spot.
This property is right on the water so you get stunning sunsets nightly with a very limited viewing audience so you feel as though you have the place to yourself.
Our condo specifically had good views of the water being on third floor. We knew we would have some views of the water and in person you have a way better view than pictures show.
We were able to feel as though we lived here and we're not just visiting. We cooked every night, were provided all the utensils and cookware needed to make dinner and absolutely enjoyed ourselves.
This is our 2nd time staying at the Kona Makai condominium complex because we loved the property so much. Easy, free, and secure parking, incredible ocean front pool/hot tub and BBQ area, plus absolutely lush gardens. The vibe is right. The complex has a balance of owners that live full time, which means the facilities are always open for use by visiting families. A quiet and peaceful place, but not too quiet. Still plenty of kids around to play with. That said, the pool never has more than a couple families using it at once. The unit itself is amazing. Since it's on the top floor, it has a loft space in addition to the master bedroom below, which is perfect for kids. The couch is a futon as well. Our 12 y.o. loved having his own space. The view from the lanai is astounding. Kitchen has everything you need including a filtered water pitcher in the refrigerator, so we filled our water bottles every morning before leaving. Rice maker too. Mattresses are new and super comfy. The air flow is fantastic. We turned the AC on briefly now and then, just to cool down after a long day, but we would open all the screened windows before bed and listen to the ocean. We were thrilled to discover 3 x Tommy Bahama beach chairs, 3 x sets of snorkel equipment, 2 x boogie boards, and a cooler which we kept stocked with beverages and ice in the back of the car! Wifi was solid and the TV was internet ready with streaming services. Look no further, this place is perfect all around!
The condo unit is very well appointed and maintained. Everything you could want. The property managers are very organized and responsive. The condo property is also well maintained.
The only negative was the condo board rules. While I appreciate knowing what is and isn’t permitted, the board over steps their bounds by telling residents to “take their trash out daily” or “you will be fined if you use FaceTime or music on your lanai or in any common area”. The pool has over ten signs of everything you shouldn’t do. “No” is the most common word here. It comes off as unwelcoming for me and very parental. This is not necessarily reflective of the unit owner, but rather of the controlling strata leadership.
I would use the management company again for another stay, but not at this location.
