The historic town of Kirkcudbright is a lovely town on the Estuary, which still has a busy and bustling harbour and is a magnet for guests to the area. Stroll through the winding streets where you can visit the famous Broughton House, once home to E. A. Hornel. Kirkcudbright is known as the ’artists’ town’ having hosted generations of painters, craft makers and artisans – a culture still thriving today. Throughout the year visitors are attracted to the town as there are a diverse range of annual events from farmers’ markets, the country fair, the Jazz Festival, Festival of Light, the Riding of the Marches and of course the spectacular Tattoo, an event not to be missed. With some lovely little niche shops and fabulous places to eat, the town is an ideal location to base yourself while exploring this delightful area. Close to the Galloway Forest Park, the first Dark Sky Park in the UK, and central to five of the 7Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. The area has numerous walks available, from scenic coastal walks to forest trails.
