About this property
Lovely place to live, quite location, a short walk from the Baltic sea beach
If you’re planning a holiday on Usedom, you don’t have to choose between peace and quiet and the beach. Our Haus am Wiek is situated in Krummin, one of the island’s oldest villages – just a few steps from the Krumminer Wiek and the natural harbour, yet only a few kilometres from the Baltic Sea beach.
Here, you won’t be staying in a large holiday complex, nor in the hustle and bustle of a Baltic Sea resort, but in your own holiday home with a garden, terrace and plenty of space to yourself. Nevertheless, Zinnowitz, the Baltic Sea beaches, shopping facilities and numerous places of interest are all just a few minutes’ drive away. It is precisely this combination that makes the house so special for us: having a quiet breakfast in the morning, driving to the beach at midday and returning to Krummin in the evening when the coast is slowly getting busier.
The house
This detached holiday home offers plenty of space across around 85 m² of living area for a relaxing holiday as a couple or with the family. It is not a generic holiday let, but a house where you’ll be happy to stay for two or three weeks: with proper furniture, a well-equipped kitchen, a large dining table, books, a fireplace and a private garden.
On the ground floor, the kitchen, dining and living areas are open-plan. The large wooden table forms the centrepiece of the house. There’s plenty of space here for a leisurely breakfast, cooking together, a games evening or a glass of wine after a day at the beach.
The kitchen is fully equipped and offers everything you need, even if you actually want to cook whilst on holiday: hob, oven, fridge, dishwasher, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and other kitchen appliances. So you don’t have to limit yourself to breakfast and eating out.
Adjoining this is the living room with a cosy seating area and a fireplace. Especially outside the peak season, it’s one of the loveliest spots in the house. Anyone familiar with Usedom in spring, autumn or winter knows how pleasant it is to light a fire after a walk along the Wiek or on the Baltic Sea beach and spend the evening indoors. Firewood is provided.
Wide patio doors lead directly from the living room into the garden. As a result, in summer, the living space, patio and garden almost naturally blend together.
Two bedrooms under exposed wooden beams
Upstairs, there are two bright bedrooms with double beds. The exposed wooden beams give the rooms their own unique character and complement the house’s village-like surroundings.
The bedrooms are not intended as mere sleeping quarters, but also offer ample storage space for a longer stay. If you don’t have to get up straight away in the morning, you’re welcome to lie in a little longer – your day’s holiday begins just outside the door, not with a fixed schedule.
In addition to the two bedrooms, there is also a small bathroom or toilet with a washbasin on the upper floor.
The large bathroom is on the ground floor. It features a shower and a bath. This makes the house well-suited to families with children or to guests who prefer a bath to a shower after a long day.
A dedicated utility room with a washing machine, drying rack and ironing facilities makes longer stays hassle-free.
A private garden instead of a balcony
An essential part of our house is our own, fully enclosed garden.
From the south-west-facing terrace, you can look out over the greenery and towards the church tower in Krummin. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided. Here you can have breakfast outside in the morning, sit in the sun in the afternoon or round off the day with dinner.
For families, the garden means, above all, freedom to move about: children don’t have to stay on a small terrace or balcony all the time, but have space to play. The fenced-in grounds are also ideal for guests with dogs.
The property is enclosed by a gate. Two cars can be parked directly next to the house on the private grounds.
Bicycles are also available in the garden shed. The area around Krummin is particularly well worth exploring without a car: small villages, fields, the Bodden landscape and the Baltic Sea coast can all be easily explored by bike from here.
Krummin – peaceful, but by no means remote
For us, Krummin is one of the places on Usedom that has retained its character. The old village street, St Michael’s Church, thatched-roof houses, large gardens and the natural harbour define the village. The house is situated right in the heart of this established village layout.
It’s only about 200 metres to the Krumminer Wiek, so you can easily reach the water on foot. At the natural harbour, you can watch the boats, sit by the water or set off on a kayak or SUP tour.
You don’t even need to get in the car for a coffee or something to eat: there are cafés and restaurants in the village and at the harbour.
And then, of course, there’s the Baltic Sea.
The sandy beach is only around three kilometres away. The Baltic Sea resorts, and Zinnowitz in particular, are within easy reach. So in the morning, you can decide on the spur of the moment: a day at the beach, a cycle ride, a visit to the harbour, the thermal baths, the theatre, an island tour – or simply stay in the garden.
This is a key difference compared to holiday homes which, whilst secluded and quiet, mean that every outing involves a long drive. In Krummin, you’ll enjoy a peaceful, village-like setting, yet you’ll be right in the heart of Usedom and can reach the island’s tourist facilities in no time.
Usedom beyond the beach
Of course, you can head to the Baltic Sea every day from here. But you don’t have to.
The quieter side of Usedom begins right on your doorstep: the countryside around the Achterwasser and Peenestrom, small harbours and villages, cycle paths and plenty of nature. Especially if you’re staying on the island for a while, it’s well worth doing more than just shuttling between your holiday home and the beach.
Krummin is a great starting point for this. You can walk to Wiek, explore the surrounding area by bike, or reach very different parts of the island in no time at all by car.
In Zinnowitz, as well as the beach and the pier, you’ll find shops, restaurants, a theatre and the Ostseetherme spa with a swimming pool and sauna. This means a holiday at Haus am Wiek works out well even when the weather isn’t exactly beach-friendly.
For families, couples – and for anyone looking for a proper house
Our house is particularly suitable for guests who are looking for more than just a place to sleep on holiday.
Anyone who enjoys having breakfast together at the large table in the morning, having a coffee on the terrace between meals, cooking for themselves, sitting in the garden or curling up in front of the fireplace in the evening will probably feel more at home here than in a small flat.
Families appreciate the two separate bedrooms and the private garden. Couples have plenty of space and can enjoy the house just as much as a pair. And anyone travelling with a dog will particularly benefit from the fenced-in grounds and the walking opportunities around Krummin.
The house has been deliberately furnished for a holiday where you don’t have to be out and about every day. Even a rainy day can simply remain a day of the holiday here.
Our house on the Wiek
We love Krummin precisely because it connects two sides of Usedom.
On the one hand, there’s the famous Baltic Sea island with its wide sandy beaches, seaside resorts, restaurants, piers and plenty of leisure activities. On the other hand, there are villages like Krummin, which have remained quiet and where, in the morning, you don’t feel as though you’re waking up in the middle of a holiday resort. At Haus am Wiek, you don’t have to choose between these two sides. You’ll be staying in a detached house with a fireplace, two bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a terrace and a garden. The Krumminer Wiek is practically on your doorstep. And if you fancy a trip to the Baltic Sea beach, you’ll be there in just a few minutes.A lovely place to stay, in a quiet location, just a short walk from the Baltic Sea beach – that’s exactly what Haus am Wiek is all about.
