This is a very very old property that has an incredibly well done renovation and modernization. Ancient timbers that must be hundreds of years old have been exposed and left in contrast to the super modern and well crafted updates like bathrooms, lighting etc.
The owner and hostess Zilda was also extraordinarily gracious and prepared very complete and satisfying breakfasts from the enclosed rooftop kitchen dining area. In general we found Lamego a happy surprise for it's depth of history and interest, and this hotel was the perfect, centrally located spot to experience it from.
We stayed four nights.
The property itself is beautiful, with lots of rich wood and brick. The first floor room is very spacious. Rooftop breakfast area is charming with a fantastic view of the town. However, note that with a very small sign out front it’s a small challenge to find. It consists of 5 floors of stairs only, so lifting will be required. Street noises do filter through the windows and sounds from other rooms as well. When we arrived, the entrance door was locked, lights were off, and no one was present to greet us or let us in. We had to call the phone number associated with the place in order to get in. There were no notes attached to the door indicating check in procedures, which I found lacking in service. The breakfast was adequate. The owner Zilda is charming and very nice.
INCRIVEL. O LUGAR É INCRIVEL. LIMPO, ARRUMADO, ORGANIZADO, LUGAR COM CAPRICHO HISTÓRICO. E SEM FALAR NA ZILDA EXCELENTE AFITRIÃ. VOU VOLTAR COM CERTEZA.
This is a really lovely small hotel. It is situated half way down R. de Almacave. The hotel sign is not obvious and there is only a small door to enter but don’t worry or be fooled by this first impression.
As you enter and walk up the wide main staircase the investment in refurbishment is clear to see. It is both tasteful and beautiful.
The hotel is located over around 5 floors with a magnificent glass dinning room on the roof terrace.
The place is spotlessly clean.
The owner Zilda could not have been more friendly, helpful and hospitable.
Would definitely say there again.
We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed our stay very much. It's a small hotel, rooms/bathrooms were very clean and spacious. Breakfast was excellent and the roof top breakfast area wonderful.
I had requested a twin room with two twin beds but we were given a double bed which was very uncomfortable for us. If I had known the twin beds were not available I would not have stayed here. Two nights with very little sleep did not make us happy people.
The boutique hotel is located in a beautifully designed building - one of the nicest I have stayed in. The rooms are extremely large and spacious. The owner, Zilda, is very welcoming and helpful. A lot of attention was put to ensure the comfort of the guests.
The property was beautiful the decor was something out of a magazine. The staff was so kind and friendly. Location is great and breakfast is even better. This is a must stay when in Lamego.
Wonderful. Would highly recommend this hotel. The building itself is an artful combination of old and modern. The service is personal and the owner goes out of her way to anticipate your wants. The building is very central to all the sights. Had a super time here.
What a beautiful property. Incredible location in a wonderful town. The perfect home base to explore this region of Portugal. The rooms were immaculate -- complete with a delicious homemade breakfast each morning. Zelda (the owner/proprietor) went out of her way to give me amazing recommendations, advice on transportation, and truly made my stay at Muralha one to remember for a long time. I hope to return to Lamego someday soon, and would absolutely stay here again. Also -- the view from the breakfast room was breathtaking, especially at night when you could see the town's iconic stairway lit from the plaza to the church.
