"A lovely, peaceful place to stay in Yufuin, a bit outside the bustle of town but easy walking distance from the train station. The hotel is nice, the staff are very gracious, the meals were excellent, and the baths (3!) are wonderful. Highly recommended!"

"Yufuin Gems was the perfect choice for my short stay. Located one block from the train station and just a few doors from the bus station, logistics were extremely simple. It’s also .6 km from the West trailhead for Mount Yufu, the reason for my trip. Walking through Yufuin from the hotel is an ease. The room was very large, extremely clean. The bath was a shower and a huge comfy soaking tub, which was handy after my nine mile hike. Downstairs the check-in desk also serves as a really cute cafe/bar staffed by the nicest and most helpful workers. If I ever travel to Yufuin again, I’ll stay at Gems!"

"Wonderful staff and plentiful food (both dinner and breakfast) which was really delicious. The property is run down but everything worked fine. Staff helped with transfers and getting us to the start of our walk and back. Very helpful! Don’t let the bad reviews put you off."

"Boutique bed and breakfast type facility. Had a wonderful time at the hotel. Please keep in mind is a small cozy hotel. There isn't too much amenities but staff was great with what they offer. If you are looking for a nice place to relax with a beautiful mountain backdrop this is the place to be."

"Clean and spacious traditional style room. Toilet was somehow a bit too small though, not particularly comfortable to use. Basin (for hand washing after using toilet) was then on the other side of the room which was a bit inconvenient. Hot spring facilities were at a different building (much newer and modern) which were 2 mins walk away. That was a slight problem when it was raining heavily when we were there. Parking was not great for our bigger car (RAV4 size type SUV). Tight space and lot of guests made parking very difficult. During golden week, when we stayed there, dining options at night were very limited in nearby regions."
