"Clean room and friendly staff at the Matrix in downtown Edmonton. Close to everything, walking distance to Edmonton Convention Centre. Helpful to have a restaurant on site as well as a Starbucks right downstairs. The gym was a bit small but underused so I had the space to myself early in the morning. I like that the elevator requires using your keycard, however the front desk staff could be more vigilant with people walking in without keycard access. The building is getting a it old, but it was kept clean. I enjoyed the amenities that were offered."

"First time I ever heard of an early check-in charge. We had an 11 hour overlay in Edmonton so we booked a room to clean up and nap. We arrived at the hotel at about 1 pm and the room was ready. However, the check-in time is at three, so they wanted to charge a early check-in fee equivalent to almost half the price of the room! When the man at the counter saw the look on my face, he tried to bargain: he told me that if I was willing to wait an hour for nothing in the waiting area, he would drop the extra charge! I just paid it so that we could have access to the room. Some hotels invest good money in making their clients comfortable, others, like this one, will go out of their way to make the experience as unpleasant and lucrative as possible. On top of that, the room, though clean enough, smelled like an ashtray. I was to angry at the extra charge to call the front desk."

"We were able to check in quickly. The lady at the desk was very friendly. When we arrived at our room we noticed there were dirty dishes left in the hallway by our door and we had to let the front desk know as they remained overnight even through housekeeping went by. The room was large, clean, and beds were comfortable. Water bottles and keurig coffee provided. We had to request a room change though as our first morning we were awoken at 6:30AM by a construction crew working outside our window with chainsaws. The front desk accommodated this and mentioned they had a lot of these noise complaints and had to make quite a few room switches. We were moved to a new room that afternoon and it was also large and clean. My only concern with the new room is that it was an adjoining room and it doesn’t feel private. The next door occupants were loud, we could hear their TV, their conversations and the man snoring at night. The people in the other room also rolled some batteries under the adjoining door to our side which was strange. I would request not to be in an adjoining room if you are not needing one."
