  • Today was our first #lksawaydays of 2020 #ukoutandabout We left Reading and headed out to the Wiltshire village of Avebury to have a walk around the Neolithic henge, visit the museum and have some lunch in the Red Lion. Its been over 20 years since the LKs last visited so were looking forward to re-visiting. There are no charges to walk amongst the stones which make up the largest megalithic stone circle in the world, but there are separate charges for the museum and the Avebury Manor. The main car park is £4 for the day but not very big considering the volume of visitors Avebury sees, so if you visit we would suggest outside peak months. The purpose of the the stone circle is unknown but its believed to be a ritual complex, the site is a sacred site to the contemporary Pagans and if you are lucky on your visit you may see Druidic rites taking place. Its a pleasant half day and if the weather is a little moody it can add to the visit too! #avebury #aveburystones #stones #stonecircle

Lovely, quaint and welcoming.

I stayed in Withers which is a deluxe room, it was a very good size with plenty of room for me and my large dog who was travelling with me. The bed was comfortable and the bed linen and towels were good. I can’t comment on breakfast as I had to leave before 8am which is the time the breakfast service begins. What makes this place so nice is the staff who are super friendly and helpful. It is very dog friendly too. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely stay in this village pub. We received a warm welcome and good breakfast. Room was clean and comfortable. Slight issue with the saniflow toilet but staff apologised and were awaiting it being fixed.

Good stay

Stopped for three nights for work, the only downside was the noise from the quiz night on a Tuesday, which made it hard to fall asleep. Apart from that everything was good, room was clean and the service in the bar and restaurant was great.

Brilliant

This was a beautiful country pub in a great wonderful location. We had dinner at the pub the evening we checked in and it was delicious, breakfast was too. All the staff were very helpful, nice, and made us feel very welcome. The room was clean and and just all around lovely. We only wished that our stay had been longer. We will definatley return for longer soon.

Lovely Stay

This is a lovely old pub. Our room was nice. The staff and landlord were very friendly and the food was great. The rooms are up some steep stairs, which if you have limited mobility may be difficult. Our room was rather noisy whilst the pub is open and a staircase to the upper floor has people thumping up it until past midnight, which woke us in spite of the thoughtfully supplied earplugs. Having said that, we enjoyed our stay. Thank you.
