A great place - we didn’t eat there but it had a friendly bar with an open fire good beers and service land a very cute comfortable room across the courtyard.
Staff were really friendly at arrival and breakfast, Steph really took care of us during our stay. The food both at dinner and breakfast was good pub food and definitely needed after a long trip.
The room itself is basic but very clean, additional items such as tv, kettle, tea, coffee milk, shampoo/conditioner, soap and towels were all provided. The rooms are in converted stables next to the pub and we didnt really hear any noise from the pub or other guests so managed to get a good nights sleep. Around the accommodation was a lovely little garden with a little pond that looks well looked after it nice to view in the morning.
We have a car so the steep hill up to the pub wasn't an issue but other guests would need to consider this if planning to walk into Matlock.
Overall, a really lovely stay and we would be happy to stay here again.
Staff very friendly and helpful lots of parking, nothing too much trouble would definitely recommend staying there and will stop there when next in that area.
It was perfect for us - easy to get to and a great stop off on our way south. I know they are planning to upgrade all the rooms but ours was clean and cosy and just what was needed for a quick overnight. Althought to be fair we could have stayed alot longer as the pub was just as we would want an old English pub to be - traditional and modern. Oak furniture, fireplace, wee nooks, centuries of history and many chiming clocks...as well as all the things a good modern pub should have. We missed pub food as we were late checking in( rang ahead but late arrival was no prob ..not least cos the rooms are in several outside stone building conversions), but breakfast was great - landlord and bar staff friendly and up for a chat. The guinness was great and Inches on draught ! We had a really really lovely brief stay - unexpectedly so and so good that we will def go back. The menu looked great also. The photos dont do the place justice, but dont tell, as then everyone will want to stay there ; )
The restaurant in the pub and staff were very good. The outside area around the pub and rooms needs tiding up and the room needs some TLC as well as a good clean, cobwebs in corners, tv taking off wall and bracket which was left there covered in dirt and dust, just need some TLC
The pub itself is delightful and the lodging houses are picturesque! I was so comfortable there and felt so welcomed by the proprietors. I plan on staying there again in the future.
