Historic home in downtown Mystic-1 block from green, river, shops & restaurants

Step back in time to 1828 and walk the same halls as Charles Mallory, Mystic’s most prominent shipbuilder (see Mallory buildings and exhibits on display at Mystic Seaport). The Charles Mallory House is a 7 bedroom (sleeps 15), 4.5 bath (3750 sq ft) home located on .65 acre. This newly renovated home was the home of Charles Mallory and his decedents from 1828-2012. Located in historic downtown Mystic, the Charles Mallory Mystic House is ideal for extended/multi-generational family celebrations and reunions. Are you the parent(s) of the bride or groom who is getting married in the surrounding area? Or parent(s) of a Coast Guard student, Connecticut College student, or other academic institution? If so, this is the perfect house to accommodate your guests who are attending your once in a lifetime functions. Leave your car behind as this Greek Revival Home is a 1 block walk to Main Street Mystic, Mystic Green and River, numerous restaurants, bakeries, shops and the infamous Mystic River Bascule Bridge.

Beautiful flower gardens surround the house as well as a front and side porch, a 1,000 sq foot antique bluestone patio with grill, and picturesque 7 foot fountain. An expansive back yard is perfect for your family gatherings or a quiet time to read a book or swing on the tree swing. Two Stand Up Paddle boards (SUPs) that convert into kayaks and 2 kayaks are available for your use. Please note, per recommendation of our insurance company, there are four outdoor surveillance cameras. One camera covers the backyard and carriage house, a second camera covers the driveway and the third camera covers the the patio area. A ring camera is located on the front of the house. There are no cameras located inside our home.

The Charles Mallory House has two floors. The first floor showcases a gourmet kitchen that includes an 8 burner, 2 oven Wolf stove, pot filler, Sub-Zero refrigerator, Miele dishwasher, an over sized island and granite counter tops. Four fireplaces are located in the dining room, family room, living room and bedroom. The first floor bedroom (king bed) with an en suite bathroom is perfect for guest who do not want to climb stairs. A half bath completes the first floor living area.

A foyer with a grand curved staircase (great for pictures) takes guests to second floor or guests can enter the second floor via the servants stairway. Three more fireplaces can be found among the 6 second floor bedrooms (2 king bedrooms- 1 with attached bathroom, 2 queen bedrooms, 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds, 1 bedroom with bunk bed and trundle). A total of 3 full bathrooms complete the second floor living area.

This downtown location is only a 5 minute drive to Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Esker Point Beach and Williams Beach, movie theaters, Old Mystic Village shopping, wineries, Fields of Fire Adventure Park and only 20 minutes to Rhode Island Beaches, Foxwoods, and Mohegan Sun Casinos. This property requires the signing of a contract that includes cancellation terms, payment details, and rental terms that could not be outlined within the constructs of the VRBO rental framework. A wonderful historic home for our family reunion and visit to Mystic. The house is charming, comfortable and updated with lots of spaces for large groups. The outdoor space is just lovely and has seating for many. The location is unbeatable-just a few minutes walk into the bustling town center. The hospitality of our hosts was superb!!

Amazing reunion weekend

Thank you so much for being a great place for our 30th college reunion! The kitchen was a perfect place to gather, and the outside patio and grounds were so inviting and a great place to relax, play games, and laugh around the fire pit. Our group loved every minute at your beautiful property, and hoping to be back next year! Wonderful home and hosts for sure!

Our 2nd visit to this lovely home

We (3 generations of family) came back for a repeat visit to this amazing house. Beautiful space indoors and out, with comfy areas for eating, hanging out and playing games. The location is terrific--walkable to the drawbridge and seaport museum. And communication with the hosts is great--they provided restaurant suggestions and were easy to reach with questions.

Another Wonderful Stay

Our stay was as amazing as last year's stay. Maybe even better and that's saying a lot. Such a beautiful home and the location can't be beat. The hosts, Lynn and Glenn are wonderful. Refer to our last review posted 8/25/21 after our stay last summer for more details. Once you stay here, you will want to return, again and again!!

Great Reunion Trip to Mystic

We had a group of 8 guys get together for a trip to Mohegan Sun for a basketball tournament and we needed a place with plenty of room and close by. We found this place and it was absolutely perfect for what we were looking for. Lynn and Glenn were incredibly communicative throughout the booking - gave us some great restaurant recommendations that we took advantage of and made checking in and out a breeze. The location of the house was amazing and we were able to walk everywhere in town. We will certainly look to book this property again in the future!

Dream Trip

I have been planning a trip for my American Literature class to go to New England and see examples of the places we read about and to enjoy the rich literary past. Staying at the Mallory house made this trip perfect. The students were overwhelmed at the beauty and the history of the house. We had 11 people in our group, and the space was perfect. We had plenty of room to spread out comfortably, and the dining room was perfect for getting assignments and meeting to go over the plan for the next day. Our stay could not have been more perfect. I have already recommended the house to several people!

Ideal Days in Mystic

My friends and I have taken vacations together for years. What began as four families of 8 adults has grown to 8 adults and 7 children, all under the age of 8. The house provided more than enough rooms and beds, and the yard gave space for the kids to play. The location could not have been more ideal, with all restaurants, shops, and playgrounds within walking distance for a 3 year old. We could not have found a more ideal house, and hope to be back for years to come.

Memorable Christmas gathering 2021

Our family enjoyed a 3 night visit at the Charles Mallory house. It was all that the listing promised and more! Fully equipped kitchen, ample seating in the dining room, a first floor bedroom for the grandparents, and a layout of upstairs bedrooms that gave everyone privacy. The young ones went to the playground and the adults took the very short walk into town. This place offers a splendid experience no matter what the season. We hope to come back. Many thanks to Glen and Lynn!

Amazing Mystic Vacation

Stayed in this beautiful home for 6 nights mid-July 2023 with friends and family. It was the perfect place to come together from California, Michigan and Connecticut and spend quality time together. The location can't be beat. The size and comfort of the home allowed for everyone to have their own space. We loved our time playing games in the backyard, grilling and dining in the side yard and sitting on the front porch with a coffee or a cocktail watching the people go by. The added bonus of watching the mama duck and her ducklings in the yard was the cherry on top. Hoping we will be back soon.

Wedding Gathering

Wonderful stay with family and friends in Mystic for wedding celebrations. Our guests came from different parts of the country, arriving and departing at different times. Quick walk to town for shopping and munching. Our host were most pleasant and accommodating. Always making sure that we had what we needed and making sure we were comfortable. We had 12 sleepers for a few nights and room for everyone. The beds were very comfortable! I could go on and on about this special house. So historic and beautiful! You won’t regret a stay here in Mystic Charles Mallory house!

Exceptional and Memorable Experience

Lynn and Glenn have tastefully renovated this historic and magnificent house and thought through on minute details in setting it up to meet all needs of their guests. We truly enjoyed our 4 days stay in this house. We were a party of 12 with 6 adults and 6 kids. The house had more than enough room to accommodate all of us and more. There were plenty of clean towels, linens, a nicely stocked kitchen, an outdoor fireplace, a beautiful fountain, cable TV and a gorgeous back yard. The center of the town with plenty of great restaurants and shopping is within walking distance. We will definitely come back to this property in Mewar future.

Historic Charm, Modern Amenities

Stay here, you’ll love it. The charm of this house can’t be captured in pictures. My bride-to-be and I recently stayed here with some of our wedding party. There has clearly been a LOT of effort put into maintaining and updating this historic property. While maintaining its charm, the large kitchen and bathrooms are all completely modern. Also, the plush towels were appreciated by all. We had 13 people at the house. There was no issue getting showered in the mornings, and there was plenty of seating on the patio or in the living room to relax at night. Location wise, you’re a short walk to a number of restaurants and the house is off a main road, so things are nice and quiet at night. Can’t be beat.

Wonderful historic house

We really enjoyed staying in Mallory house in New London, CT. It was very convenient to downtown Mystic and walking distance to a variety of restaurants. The description in the ad of the house is accurate. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. All of the appliances are top of the line models and in good working order. There were plenty of dishes and glassware. We didn’t verify the cooking utensils because we were too busy trying out the restaurants and donut shops in the area. But we were able to find everything that we looked for. The towels and bedding all exceeded expectations. The floor plan is a little quirky, it is a historic house, but was very comfortable and workable for our group of 7 adults and a toddler. We really appreciated the special touches, a plate of homemade cookies, private label wine, coffee and a selection of teas. The host provided us with good recommendations on the area and was very quick with answers to any questions we had.

Perfect Mystic Getaway

The Charles Mallory was an absolute delight. We kept repeating that it was the perfect location for our annual July 4 family get-together. We were walking distance to downtown Mystic and all the shops and restaurants - nothing was more than a 10 minute walk away. One of the days, we drove 5 minutes over to the aquarium and spent the rest of the day in Mystic village. We also visited Foxwoods, took a boat ride, and went to hibachi, all less than half hour drive. The house itself was great. Even though its almost 200 years old, the owners did a spectacular job renovating much of it to keep it appealing, while maintaining that historical feel. The pictures of the kitchen don't do it justice as it was huge, and we really enjoyed cooking on the Wolf range, as well as the high-end grill outside. The patio and backyard were perfect for kids to run around. And the sleeping arrangements worked out perfectly and all 14 of us were situated very nicely. Overall, I would highly recommend this house to any large group wanting to spend time in Mystic!

Amazing Home in a Wonderful Location!

What can we say except book this amazing home, you will love it! The home itself is very special; loads of history, beautifully and lovingly remodeled, tastefully decorated, very clean, and has everything you might need. The hosts, Lynn and Skip, were so easy to communicate with, before and during. They were extremely welcoming and gave tons of great recommendations. The location is wonderful too, right in town where you can walk to everything, all the shops, sites, and great restaurants. We went with our kids, their spouses and granddaughter for a family vacation. The home is spacious with large rooms to all be together but also enough space there if you wanted some alone time. Some of us walked down to the river with the kayaks and paddleboards that are provided at the house for a nice river ride. We all spent a lot of time outside on the beautiful patio with so much comfortable seating. Large yard too for playing and swinging on the swing. We will definitely be going back next summer!

Magical Property

I highly recommend this amazing property for your next vacation or even as a destination for your next family reunion. My sister and I rented this beautiful home with our families to celebrate a wedding at nearby Saltwater Vineyards. There was plenty of space, indoors and outdoors, for the two sets of parents and grown children (11 in total). The kitchen was well-stocked with many amenities that made preparing meals a pleasure and we all fit comfortably around the dining room table with ample china, glasses and silverware for all. We catered dinner one night from a local Italian restaurant and the full trays of food fit comfortably in the ovens to stay warm. The outdoor space feels like a park with a beautiful fountain, lots of tables with umbrellas and soft weating for large groups. The porch swing suspended from a huge tree in the side yard was a perfect place for a quiet chat. The location is truly ideal and allowed everyone to explore downtown Mystic on foot on their own schedule with no cars needed. Thank you Lynn and Skip for providing a setting and experience that exceeded our expectations.

Wedding Weekend

I cannot begin to express how happy we were with the rental of the Charles Mallory home. Your perfectly appointed rental was an exceptional location for our son's wedding weekend. Our family felt absolutely comfortable and right at home. The house had everything I needed to entertain my son's wedding party for a "Night Before" dinner and a brunch for the groomsmen the morning of the wedding. The beautiful patio and fountain all added a picturesque background for all our festivities. I can't wait to see all the photos and I will be sure to share them. The location only 1 block from downtown Mystic added to the appeal and charm of the home. When there was some downtime we walked downtown enjoying many of the shops, restaurants and bars Mystic has to offer. My grandchildren loved the park and the harbor both walking distance from the house. Communication with the hosts was easy and they were quick to respond to our questions. We loved this property so much we are considering renting again next year around the holidays so we can spend some time together as a family. Many thanks to Lynn and Glen. We couldn't have asked more accommodating hosts and such an absolutely beautiful home to celebrate our wedding weekend. Lisa

Wonderful family gathering locale

Perfect location for a large group visiting Mystic. Property is as described and suited our 15 family members (teens to 60+) perfectly. Everyone commented on how great it was to be able to gather in such a wonderful place…not just a house, but an old home with lots of history. Plenty of public space but also has room to retreat for more quiet time. It’s quirky, a fun. homey kind of place that makes you say “what’s behind that door?” Features we especially liked include location (walk to everything), the huge very well equipped modern kitchen, large dining room, comfortable bedrooms with good linens, plenty of nice towels (and a good hot water supply), lots of bathrooms, a basket of blankets to ward off a chill while enjoying the amazing patio. Owner communication was also a really big plus. I felt very comfortable renting this house from the time I reserved it. Keep in mind that it is a very old house. If you are put off by uneven floors or creaks or an interior door that maybe doesn’t close all the way, this house may not be for you. Also, even though there is a bedroom on the ground floor, you need to be able to navigate stairs to access the house.

Lovely Wedding Weekend

Our son got married in Mystic, and we had 11 family members stay at The Charles Mallory House. The history of this home was delightful, and we felt like we really were immersed in the New England shipping world during our long weekend. The groomsmen had their photographs taken at our house the morning of the wedding. The fountain, carriage house, front porch, and tree swing were just perfect backdrops. The large kitchen was ideal for meals, and the dining room table was useful for family reminiscing and chatter. The only odd thing about the house is the bedroom configuration and the bathrooms. You need to walk through another bedroom to get to a shower. That said, since we were all family, we enjoyed the quirkiness and simply planned ahead. The steep stairway at the back of the house, although not doable for anyone elderly or a toddler, we thought was kind of fun. There are a few stairs to enter the home which were a little bit of a challenge for our elderly in-laws, but with assistance, they were able to climb them. 100% clean and tidy...you won't regret renting this amazing house. And the yummy cookies and champagne were certainly appreciated as a greeting. Thanks for a memorable weekend! We can't wait to see the professional photographs.

Fantastic Historic Home - Perfect New England Reunion

The Charles Mallory House provided us the perfect in-town Mystic location to host our large family for the 142nd USCGA Commencement Exercises. We rented the home for 5 days to provide a comfortable central gathering place, and it delivered. Our guests were amazed at what the home offered for comfort, easy visiting, photo opportunities, a home cooked meal, and walking and dining options in Mystic. The house’s amenities were extensive. Modern renovated bathrooms, and kitchen were appreciated and used extensively. The fully stocked kitchen had every utensil, tableware, serving platter, glassware, crockpot we could make use of during our stay. We used he patio and patio fire pit a few times. The extended the size of the house for gathering comfortably. The long driveway was a plus because it easily accommodated 6 cars, and we didn’t need to search for street parking in busy Mystic. Another example of how easy it was to stay at CM House. Finally, the owners were an absolute pleasure to work with throughout. We communicated regularly, leading up to our stay, helping us to be completely oriented about the property upon arrival. Consequently, we were motivated to be good stewards of this fine, beautiful historic home. They offered to fly a Coast Guard flag for us, while there. Much appreciated! I can’t say enough good things about this house. Thank you!

We absolutely loved our stay here. We were a large group staying in town for a wedding and this was the perfect property. The house itself is charming with tons of great space for large groups to hang out. We took advantage of the great kitchen and dining room a few times.
