"Hotel was well located, staff were very welcoming and attentive. Although a lot of hotels take a card on check in for additional charges such as the bar, breakfast etc, this hotel actually takes the deposit from your card at the time and then refund you a few days later rather than only processing charges on check out. Not sure this is a great way of dealing with customers as you have to check that you receive the refund. "

"The spa was wonderful. The rooms are clean and the staff is very kind. I believe that they want to ensure you are comfortable. But, they are working with a property in need of maintenance. Our air conditioner worked the first night, but the next day we couldn't get the temperature below 24c/75f. After two attempts to fix it, they moved us to another room, where we discovered another guests gift wine, cupcake and greeting. Not a tragedy, but not assuring either. We got our new room pleasantly cool, though the thermostat never moved from 22c/72f. And it was definitely cooler than that. 2 out of 2 room temperature controls malfunctioning. A five star hotel to me, will get the details right. I didn't leave The Gainsborough with that impression, and it certainly wasn't the relaxing few days I had hoped for."

"Friendly staff, great location if travelling with luggage as hotel is directly across from train station and easy walk to Bath ruins and amazing Therma Spa. Amenities and dining all around. Accommodations were great! Great space comfortable beds, pillows and linens. Neat and clean. Great character in building. Amazing breakfast included as well. "

"overall we had an excellent stay. staff were excellent. Breakfast waa delicious. bed was comfortable and room was quiet. room was clean and well maintained. good location. The disappointment was the room was much smaller than picture on expedia. in making your reservation ask them about the size of the room. location is good but it is hard to get out of the parking lot due to hedges blocking view it made id difficult"
