About this property

Single Story Retreat with Pavilion

  • Summary:

A single-story house on a private acre outside Chapel Hill, built for hosting. The living room has 14' vaulted ceilings and transom windows. The kitchen has an induction cooktop, wall oven and a separate bar and coffee station. Out back, a 700 sq ft covered pavilion holds a gas grill, picnic tables, a sink and a Bluetooth sound system with party lights. The lawn has swings, a sandbox, a climbing gym and slides. Four bedrooms, three full baths, sleeps 8. Duke Forest trails are a half mile away. UNC, Duke and I-40 are a short drive.

    The Space:

The front door opens into one big room: living area, kitchen and dining under a 14' ceiling, with transom windows that keep it bright until sunset. Cook on the induction cooktop and wall oven. A full-size fridge, dishwasher and complete cookware set are in the kitchen, and a second beverage fridge with the bar and pod-coffee setup sits under the cabinets across the room, so morning coffee stays out of the cook's way.

All four bedrooms are on the main level. Each one has a smart TV, blackout curtains, USB charging at the bed, and closet and luggage space.

The Mountain View Room: king canopy bed, 14' ceiling, two plush chairs, custom mural, full bath access

The Daybreak Room: king bed, private full bath, chair and workstation

The Eno River Room: queen bed, custom mural and artwork, full bath with tub

The Starlight Room: full bed, chair and workstation, full bath with tub

The pavilion is the reason people book this house. It has a propane grill, several picnic tables, a sink, and a sound system you pair over Bluetooth. The lights are labeled at the switch, including a sound-activated disco ball. On the lawn: swings, a sandbox, a climbing gym, slides, a sand table and a wooden monster truck. A foosball table is in the mudroom, board games and a library are in the house, yard games are in the garage next to an exercise bike. More than 40 fruit trees and berry bushes grow around the property with native plantings.

Park in the two-car garage, the driveway, or the overflow spots. There is a desk and fast Wi-Fi if you need to work.

    Guest Access:

You have the whole house, garage, pavilion, play areas and lawn. The treehouse, workshop and greenhouse at the back of the property are closed to guests.

    The Neighborhood:

The house sits on a six-house street that ends in a cul-de-sac, good for an evening walk with kids or a stroller. Around the corner, The Pig serves NC barbecue with a bar attached, and Chapel Chill ice cream shares the same courtyard. Joe Van Gogh pours the coffee. New Hope Market does weekday breakfast and sells goods from local vendors. Namu has Asian food, a large brewery and a coffee shop around a garden with a lot of outdoor seating. Bar Taco is family-friendly and celiac-safe. Squid's has done seafood for decades and handles allergies with care. Beau Catering stocks heat-and-eat meals and a good wall of wine. For hiking, park at the Whitfield Road trailhead by the New Hope fire station, a half mile from the house.

    Other Things to Note:

The house is on well water. It is filtered and safe to drink. The minerals react with chemical sunscreen, so wash sunscreen-covered light clothing separately or you may see rust stains.

If liquid spills onto the induction cooktop it shuts off. Dry it and turn it back on. Wipe it with a damp towel; do not spray cleaner on it.

The dishwasher's touch panel is sensitive. Leaning on it mid-cycle can stop the wash.

The pavilion sink runs cold water only.

One Ring camera covers the exterior entry. There are no cameras inside.

No pets. No smoking. No events beyond your booked guest count.

Entry from the garage has a few steps.

Audio and video are recorded on the exterior of the property 24/7.

You will be required to sign a rental agreement in our guest portal after confirming your reservation.
