From the eleventh century, Reillanne became a fortified village. Its location on a rocky promontory made it possible to monitor the surroundings and ensure the protection of the inhabitants. A medieval castle, now largely gone, once dominated the village. The ramparts, fortified gates and narrow streets still visible are a reminder of this defensive past.
Over the centuries, Reillanne has been marked by the great periods of Provençal history: feudal wars, epidemics, religious conflicts and troubles linked to the Wars of Religion. Despite these hardships, the village maintains an essential agricultural activity, based on the cultivation of cereals, olive trees and vines.
